Getting sleeved in April...is any one from Texas on this site?

Recommended Posts

I'm nervous and excited about getting sleeved. I'd love to network with people who are being sleeved and have been sleeved in Texas. Any words of advice and encouragement would be great.

Another Texan here. I watched dozens of hours of Youtube videos from sleevers and RNY patients, read tons of testimonials, forum posts and blogs. Even got to talk to 3 people that had gone through sleeve surgery.

No matter how much reassurance people give you, there's always the lingering doubt that I'm the one that it won't work on. I had to go through it to understand how much it improved my life. No more hunger pangs, cravings, I can walk away from sweets, I don't gorge myself at the buffet, I don't feel the need to hoard food, and I am not always planning my next meal.

I had NEVER had any type of surgery before this - 46 years and never been in a hospital. I couldn't even pick a tattoo that I wanted permanently on me! So it took a lot of determination to make that 1st phone call to my insurance company to find out the process of qualifying for bariatric surgery.

I can only say that I wish the sleeve had been around when I was 21 instead of having to wait an additional 20 years to get it.

Another Texan here, just had surgery 2 weeks ago down 19lbs!! Although I am a registered nurse that works PACU/ER at a Center of Excellence, I still had reservations on the surgery for myself. I had to really think is this for me, once I said yes there was no stopping me. I must say this is one of the best decisions I have made, I have more energy and I am extremely optimistic. This site has boat loads of information, and the are a lot of veterans on this site who are supportive. Good luck to you c0c0, I wish you the best. what part of Texas are you from?

Howdy fellow Texan! There is a group for Texans and several Texans have posted in the USA Sleevers Forum. I will not be sleeved until June, and the wait is killing me! I am so ready to do this.

I love the online forums and groups! i did this kind of thing during pregnancy, and it kept me sane. You have already taken the first step to reach out to other Texans, but also be sure to find the April 2013 Group and Forum, as well as other Groups that you fit into. We are all in this together and I cannot tell you how impressed I am with all the encouragement I read on this website from other members.

Friend me, message me, or shout out whenever you need to. :)

I'm in mesquite which is right outside of dallas. I won't be getting sleeved till July/August though. My surgeon is Dr. Joseph Kuhn out of Baylor and Medical City. I can't wait to be sleeved but I'm currently on my 3rd month of the 6 month physician supervised diet. Lost 20 lbs so far and hoping to lose even more before surgery. :)

Best of your luck on your journey!!! All us Tx folk need to keep in touch and support each other!! :)

How long ago did you get sleeved? You are the second person who's said that it stops cravings. I didn't realize it stopped cravings. How much have you lost so far? How was it adjusting to the new eating style before and after surgery?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
