I had my transnasal endoscope done today and I was fully awake. OMG that was awful. I now feel like I have a horrible cold. I was expecting a scratchy throat, but I feel like my head is going to explode. Not to mention it was an all together horrible experience. Sigh. Is it March 28th yet?!?!?!!!!

When I got mine done I wouldn't let them do anything to me until I was completely under, So mine went off very smooth. I kept telling him that I was still alert, so he kept giving me meds...I didn't feel a thing..Sorry you had to go through that..

I'm glad I didn't have to do that test. Unless they did it when I was knocked out :P

What did you have to get it done for? I don't think I have to have that. I had to have a Barum Swallow test today before my surgery.

It's called a manometry test. Something to do with swallowing

Yes they numbed me up. I could not really feel it until they got to my vocal cords an I had to swollow twice to let it pass. Then it was horrible.

I don't mean to scare you, everyone's situation will be different. I just had a bad experience. They filled my stomach with air and it made me feel like I was going to throw up (which was only massive burps. Apparently completely normal).

I guess I just did not expect to feel this crappy afterwards. My head is killin me and I feel achy. I'm completely exhausted.

Mine was to check for a hidal hernea (which I do have) and to check for some kind of bacteria in the stomach that would have to be treated before surgery.

The test I had today showed I have a hiatal hernia as well. I guess my Doc. does a different test for that. Thank the Lord. Mine was bad enough!

One more thing they can charge someone for.. Whether it be to you or your insurance company. This is getting out of hand if you ask me

As for the test itself? .. WTH.. I've had it done, but never while I was awake! LOL.. No way could they hold me down for it.. That's crazy!

I told my husband that if anyone every told me I had to do it again for something i would walk out!!! It was horrible. I was bawling by the time it was done. I would have happily paid an extra charge to be sedated for it. Atleast some gas like at the dentists. Geez...

I get to have an endoscopy done next Monday, August 5, where they will insert a bravo chip. I will have a journal and a transmitter which will measure the amount of acid in my esophagus for a day or two. The same day I get a fluoroscopy to check my pouch and remove the Fluid from my lap band. The following Monday, August 12, I will have the esophageal motility test to check for dysphagia. This one does not sound like any fun, since you are awake. I can only imagine a ng, tube, with my horrible gag reflex and a lapband in place. I have had my band in for 6 years with heart burn for 3+ even with prescription meds for heartburn. They are doing these tests to see if I am a candidate for the sleeve and damage from the band and scar tissue. The results from these tests may also be enough for my ins. co. to move up my surgery date and bypass the 6 month medically supervised diet. My biggest fear, and I told my surgeon this, is there will be too much damage from the band and I won't be able to have the revision surgery to a sleeve.

I was awake for mine, but it was a regular upper endoscopy. It wasn't all that bad for me. They said I did better than the sedated (versed, not propofol I assume) people. I just had a hard time after. My chest, back and stomach all hurt. I still have a little bit of pinching sensations still from where they took the biopsies. Just trying to help out the folks who are about to get one :)

Just had mines last week too but I was put under, didn't know a thing. Woke up feeling like myself just very sleepy. I got a call today that I have the bacteria on my stomach which causes ulcers so I now have to take 3 different antibiotics for two whole weeks to clear that up and take a blood test in 6 weeks to be sure it is gone, then I finally get my date and of course must wait for approval from my insurance. In sure the wait is well worth it for a healthy future, a healthy life!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
