Howdy:-) Ok so the big day is almost here...I haven't been nervous about it until now. Im 28...about 275 with no real medical problems and my surgery is on March 22nd. I just made the decision to go with the vertical sleeve vs the lap band. This is going to sound SILLY...but one of my real worries is how long it will be post op before i can return to my office job. I hate missing work but I have 10 days total off. Is there anyone out there that is/has been in a similar situation as mine?

Thanks for any help...Im sure ill have more questions!

Hi there I have an office job as well and I returned after 10 working days off. You may feel washed out for a few weeks but I had no problem returning after that amount of time. Good luck with it all!!

Hi Kimmie,

When is your date? Mine is this Tuesday and I have also taken off about 10 days. With a light office job everyone tells me I should be fine, but also still a little nervous about if I will be "myself" when I go back. I will let you know how it works out for me!

Well I have 10 days TOTAL from surgery day 3/22 including weekends. I really hope that I recover quickly! Let me know how it goes for you, also. Thanks!

I work behind a desk, on night shift and tonight has been my first night back on duty since I had surgery. I've felt fine the entire night, and went to the gym with no problems. I feel tired right now, but I pushed myself a bit in the gym, I'll sleep well today. I took 3 weeks off, but in reality, I really could have taken 8 days and been fine (only work 4 days on 3 off 10 hour days). Good luck!

I went back to my office Job the same week I had surgery. I went in for surgery on Monday came home on Tuesday took all day Wednesday to reset and recover then I worked from home on Thursday and went back on Friday. Then Saturday I ran around all day with my kids including going to the circus that night and I am cleaning around the house today. My energy level has never been better. With that said, I do it a wall in the afternoon and have to crash for about an hour or two when I get home from work/finish with chores. Once I do that, I feel like a million bucks again. A key is getting that Protein, Water and Vitamins in. It will help you heal and feel normal faster.

Oh God, I am at the point of hating the shakes but it is what it is. I use a kind that has 40 grams so I only really need 2 - 8 ounce shakes of those a day. I'm going to keep an eye on that though because the calories are a bit higher than some others. I figure this first 2 weeks during the fluids only phase that isn't too big of a deal because I'm not really taking in many other calories. As I ad in food I'll need to switch to something else.

I'm sure you'll do great. I was prepared for the worst but it really has been a great feeling. The energy is amazing, I'm down 21 pounds from the start of pre op and can already see and feel the difference. That said, I was MISERABLE the day of surgery from the pain. It was all gas related pain in my chest not the actual surgical pain but they got me some IV meds for that so keep that in mind. The one thing I didn't think about is my Wedding ring keeps flying off when I'm gesturing as it has gotten to big. lol

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I've heard a few times people saying they have more energy - for that reason alone I would have this surgery! I can't remember the last time I woke up and felt rested & energised!?! I haven't been to boxing in months and that's my passion ... Looking forward to getting in fighting shape again ????

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
