Just curious if any sleevers out there wish they had gone with the RNY instead? Purely out of curiosity, not at ALL implying negativity.

So far, no. I don't like the idea of all that rerouting, malabsorption, and that I would never be able to take NSAIDS again. I might feel differently some day if I don't reach goal, but I doubt it.

^ this.

I wanted to be able to eat like a normal person. Long term the difference in weight loss between the two seems to be rather minimal.

No, I am happy with my decision to go with the sleeve. My brother in law had RNY 4 weeks prior to my 2/19 surgery date. He has already experienced dumping and some other unpleasant side effects. I did not want a bypass for the reasons previously listed. I may not lose weight as quickly as he, but I also won't have the same issues he has faced.

My older sister had RNY about 2 years ago and had been sick ever since. Her weight fell off and she's tiny but she's in the ER all the time! I get frustrated sometimes with the sleeve, feeling like it isn't useful, but I'm sure glad I'm not in her shoes!

The bypass people I have seen don't have good color. They all look kind of gray to me. I want to be able to eat a bite of cake someday without getting the runs and I don't want to be constantly in fear that I am lacking nutrition even if I am eating a healthy diet. I just don't think bypass is the path to a healthier body. This process is tough, but I am convinced I made the right choice for me.

what i mean is i dont regret it i just wonder how life would be with the RNY. not that i regret it or wish that i had gone a different path just curious how much more drastic my life would have changed. I have lost 58lbs with the sleeve.

Never considered bypass because the malabsorption really scared me and the bypass people i know have to take SO MANY different Vitamins. The dumping because of sugar scared me too, but I just found out sleevers can have dumping issues too. I don't have an issue with sugar, luckily, but in my seminar the bypass girl said if she ate more than half a banana she would have terrible dumping syndrome and right then I was like, no way!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
