Sick and tired of full liquids and protein shakes!

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 days out from the sleeve and finding it super hard to drink the Protein Shakes and drink the creamed Soups. I have 9 more days in this stage and I'm about to have a fit. I want variety from Propel, Water, SF popsicles, crystal light, and hot teas. Maybe a word of encouragement and to know others have struggled too will help.

Going through the same thing, you actually read my mind. Between pre-op and post-op I've been on liquids for about 30 days, ready for something with a little consistency. Although, I can have Crystal Light etc, some of them just do not taste the same anymore. & my stomach grumbles, and mixes between a hiccup and a burp constantly. Hope it gets better, soon.

Hey guys, hang in there. I too was not feeling the Protein Shakes but i had to keep trying different varieties and flavors until I finally found one that I can tolerate. It is so so important to get at least 60 grams of Protein in your system a day. Cream of chicken Soup was so good while I was on liquids. You can do this cause u have no choice. Change your mindset because if u believe u can't do it u won't. I was where u were at too. I just made up my mind that this is what I wanted, and now that I have did the surgery I'm gonna make my mind up to do what I gotta do. Stay in touch and lets get that protein down. I have no regrets and neither will u. Take care ladies and good luck.

Also' date=' Protein shake is making me gag because I am so SICK of it![/quote']

Same thing here. I tried too many different products and seem to not like any of them, even the liquid Protein is horrible.

Sometimes, you just have to choke em down but keep trying to find ones that work. Hang in there and eventually it will get better. I am 12 weeks out and it is kind of just part of your norm now.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I just felt like venting and it made me feel better..lol. My only struggle is that darn protein stuff. I don't want to waste more money buying stuff that I won't drink. I heard someone say try the unflavoured Protein powder, so that's my next purchase today. Just so I can try harder to get it in. Thanks!!

Ugh. Those shakes make me gag. I ordered some PB2 to mix in there. Fellow sleevers said it really helps. What I have learned with protien is that we really need to bite the bullet. I have yet to try one that us tAsty, but we just have to keep on keeping on!

Is it really that awful? I am going to have surgery on April 16th and I've found a great shake at costco that I've been drinking. It's called Premier Protien and has 25 grams. The chocolate is wonderful. You can also find it online. Also, the vanilla one you can add fruit (a bit) to it and mix it up.

I have not tried that brand since I'm not a member at costco. If I can find it elsewhere, I will give it shot...thanks!!

Premier is a decent one, however, after surgery, I had to use Protein Powder with Water because the ready to drinks ones ( most of them ) are too thick to consume with a new sleeve, but these guidelines were for my doctor. Everybody has different guidelines. Since then - I've introduced skim milk which has helped with caloric intake because right now I'm lucky if I'm getting 300. The Protein powder is just frothy. I might try Isopure again today with 40g a bottle. That might help me and the. Drink another with skim milk and protein powder. I know I need to push myself - just don't want to over do it. I used to love SF Popsicles too, but after surgery my taste buds have changed towards them & I don't enjoy them at all. I tolerate the grape with crushed Vitamins.< /p>

Near the end of the liquid phase it does get VERY hard. I got to the point that I cried when I was faced with another Protein Shake. For the first two weeks after surgery, all I could have was Protein Shakes, Water, Decaf coffee/tea and V-8/tomato juice. Other people had it worse with only Clear Liquids. If you are tolerating the liquid diet well, you do have the option of asking the NUT to transition you early to the next phase. Many of us transition ourselves early, but that has risks so it is better to clear it with your doctor.

I might have to do that. I am tolerating liquids very well. I have another appointment tomorrow. I just don't want to over do it. I would rather get my liquids in and just skimp over the protein powder, liquids and shakes. I will try getting the muscle milk in today...it's a stretch. Maybe if I add something to it, it will taste better.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
