4 days into pre op diet and feeling weak...

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days into my pre op diet (600-800 calories per day) and I've had a headache for 3 days and have been feeling lightheaded for 2 days. Is this normal? I'm making sure to drink plenty of Water so I don't get dehydrated but I feel like I'm about to pass out sometimes. Maybe I'm just hungry and want a nice juicy burger! Just kidding...or am I?!! ;) Thank you for your help!!

I remembet day 3-4 being the hardest! It gets easier... you may be going through caffeine withdrawal. Keep strong it will be worth it!! It goes by fast. Its to shrink your liver so, you HAVE to stick too it!! Get some sugar free popcicles. Try some beef broth from a can, much better than bollioun cubes. Thats what perked myself up. I was on that 2 week preop diet, then post op for an additional 5 weeks before I could chew food again! I did it, so can you!! I AM 7 WEEKS POST AND DOWN 47LBS :)

I'm 4 days in too. It is totally normal from all I've heard and read. Your body is trying to deal with the shock of not having instant fuel (sugars, carbs, excess fats) and that adjustment can cause headache, nausea, weakness, dizziness, irritability and body aches. I've been getting dizzy and shaking/weak now that I am 4 days in and i can barely get up the stairs to my house.

Keep at it!! If you did 4 you can totally do another 4!

I received my diet plan yesterday but haven't begun it yet. My surgery date is 4/22 so I plan on starting it somewhere between 3/25 and 4/8. I talked to the dietician yesterday and ahe said if I do get headaches it's probably low blood sugar and to have a very light snack (like string cheese and crackers) if necessary. When is your big day? Congrats!

I found that chicken broth was satisfying and somewhat filling. It also had sodium that you might be otherwise lacking and causing the light-headedness.

Hello!!!

I am also scheduled for the 19th, and currently on the 4th day of my liquid diet. I was allowed to eat sugar free Jello, and that helps with the headaches.

Good luck to you all...

Wahooo, march 19, here we come!!!!

My surgery was December 7, 2012. I am still going through my post open appointments and haven't seen the surgeon post surgery yet. I didn't do the shakes pre surgery. I would say have another Protein shake before solid food. Your trying to get to the point where the body starts burning the fat for energy. Try a short walk after a meal. The light headedness may be from giving up coffee, sugared soda if it continues you need to tell your doctor.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
