Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Excited, scared, nervous, anxious and everything in between....

Recommended Posts

I have my first appt with the surgeon on Wednesday. I have over 200 lbs to lose and it just seems like SUCH a long way to go! I have always been overweight, but I've gained over 100 lbs in the last 5 years since my son was born. I had gotten down to about 275 after I had him and then I got the Mirena IUD and I'm not blaming that exclusively, but I feel that it didn't help from the things I've read about it.

I'm anxious to start this part of my life for myself, my son and my family. I can't go into a store right now and buy clothes. I have to order online. My first goal will be to go into a store and buy an outfit that I didn't have to order online! My second goal will be to be able to put my socks and shoes on without a struggle.

I guess I'm just rambling on and on, but I feel so blessed to have found this forum!!!

hi and welcome to this site for us sleevers... I was all of the above too.. even cried before going into surgery.. it was overwhelming for me.. never been thru surgery like this before.. but I did really well.. was up and out of bed within 15 min of getting to my room and out in the hall walking within the hour.... I wanted to go home and did everything my doctor told me too.. passed the swallow test the next morning and home I went.. and onward to a new life.. food will no longer dictate my life.. and it doesnt.. this is the best thing since chocolate lol.. I now go to the gym and do some cardio work.. and ive lost a total of 63lbs since dec 20.. so yes this has worked for me. changed many things.. but hey its been well worth is.. welcome :)

I know what you mean about being able to buy off the rack, I can't wait either. Just think about how healthy you'll be and all of the clothing store sale that are in your future. My surgery is in April and I'm excited and nervous too. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
