I have a couple of months before surgery and have reduced my smoking to two a day and will be totally smoke free in two days.....at first it was relatively easy but now I find managing my diet while quitting is REALLY difficult. I know I have to face these life changes but I am afraid I will go into my first weight managment appointment HEAVIER than when I went for my consult......I have enough guilt I don't want my first appointment to feel like a failure...... ugh

will be totally smoke free in two days...

anniemay

congrats on stopping smoking :)

never having smoked, i can only imagine how difficult it must be to deal with a nicotene addiction - a struggle

by successfully quitting, you are showing how strong and committed you are to WLS :)

don't think about gaining before WLS just because you've quit smoking

i understand that no more smoking - your hands might "want" to keep busy by eating

work hard, don't give in to temptation with smoking or food

easier said than done of course :(

I have faith in you :)

i see B) you will succeed

good luck with all

best

Annie I know just what your going through I was told I had to be smoke free for 3 months before surgery my last one was 01-3-13 I took chantix for 3 weeks and it really helped me get over that initial hump but now that I'm on low carb diet the last 10 days I've been having that nagging craving. I've found that electronic cigarettes help me. My surgeon allows you to use them so you may want to ask and try those it took a few brands until I found one I liked.

I completely understand. Before surgery I felt like everything was being taken away from me....food...smoking...caffeine! Lol! I quit in August of last year and my surgery was 1/15 and I'm so glad I quit. I didn't want anything to ruin my chances of having surgery. I quit cold turkey right before my birthday and it was tough but so worth it. I'm finding its easier to work out with my weight loss and clear lungs now. I know it's hard so if you need help that's ok. My friend used the gum which was a joke and the e cigarettes which she said made her sick. Maybe try chantix? I've heard some good things about it. Or ask your doctor for help if you find you are feeling desperate. Good luck, its tough but in the end it will be all worth it!

Thanks everyone. I am using Chantix which has been great. I am starting to realize I used smoking as my crutch or escape from stress - and w two under six years old that's a lot! I am toughing it out. Haven't bought any and smoked less than a pack in a week. I have to do this. I WILL do it!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
