So I've been on semi solid food a few days now. All is going good except some times when I eat something crazy happens. Today I took two bites of tuna- I can only describe it as an almost having to burp pain in my mud section it gets more painful before it gets better- I get really mucusy in my mouth and I vomited from this feeling for the first time today after about 15 mins the feeling passes

Hey tt...sounds like you may not be ready for that tuna yet. When food is too dense/dry apparently it's painful and can actually give you a "stuck" feeling, followed by your body's response of secreting more saliva/mucous in an attempt to get it "unstuck".....not speaking from experience, I'm still on full liquids after my surgery, only from what I've read here on the boards. :)

You might be eating to quickly or bites are too large. Even if you think your eating slow and small bites this may mean you have to go even slower than that and also smaller.

The sliming is your systems prep to vomit. SLOWER & SMALLER

or.. You just may not tolerate tuna for now.. give it time

If it is just tuna then it just may mean that you need to back off a while. I had the same problem with eggs right after surgery. But now after 3 months its fine. Not everything is going to go down easy right away, but check back on it a month or so out, and you should be cool. Just remember you got to chew. That was one thing that I thought would be easy, but you really have to remember to do it every time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
