Hi all,

I'm fairly new around here, and you all seem so friendly I thought I'd ask for some advice.

I was banded just over 3 weeks ago and so far things are going well. I'm booked in to see my surgeon for a follow up and possibly a fill in another week, but I'm experiencing quite a bit of pain where (I think) my port is, and I'm not sure if it's normal.

I start off the day ok, but around lunchtime I feel pressure (I'm still bloated from the gas in surgery), and before long there is a stinging, burning pain just below my largest cut on my left hand side.

I can relieve the pain if I "lift up" that area of my stomach a bit, or if I lie down, which is hard to do at work.

Did anyone else have this happen to them?? I'm starting to worry that maybe my port has flipped

hi and welcome

I experienced similar pain to what you are having and its just some of the things that occur after surgery!!!

I would suggest to maybe phone your doc anyway just incase something else is wrong

Thanks Fee, I think I'll give him a ring tomorrow :)

How long did your pain last? I want to get back to the gym!

Hey Amy,

The first time around, I experienced a bit of port pain as well, especially when bending over. It went away after about a month. It wasn't constant, so I just tried to work around it.

I was back in the gym after 4 weeks, doing Water aerobics. I had always thought that class was for old people lol, but it was quite the workout and I ended up really enjoying it.

Thanks, I'm glad to know it's not just me!

My appointment with the surgeon is exactly a month after my surgery, so if I'm still in pain then I'm sure he can sort me out.

The Water aerobics sounds like a great idea, I've done it before, years ago and I remember it was fun. Plus I didn't feel so self conscious about my weight when I was surrounded by other ladies who obviously didn't care what other people thought!:)

I had this pain after surgery and when I went to my one week with my surgeon he said it was more muscle agitation and to take Aleve I took 2 a day for four days and the pain is gone...it's an anti inflamatory that definitely un inflamed my sore area...worked wonders for me

I'd ask your doctor before taking multiple Aleve or any NSAIDS. I'll take a dose here and there for my back, but not back to back.

Best of luck to ya.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
