How much help did you need in hosp and after home from hospital?

Recommended Posts

I was told not to drive for 2 weeks after surgery (by the hospital' date=' not my doctor) because if I were to get into an accident, I wouldn't want the steering wheel to go into my stomach. I was laughing at the guy in my head and thinking "uh, hello, air bags!" Needless to say, I was out and driving the forth day after surgery. I was a little nervous because I drive a manual car and worried that I might have trouble shifting gears, but I had absolutely no problems at all.[/quote']

They say that bc the air bag doesn't deploy in every accident. If you're not going fast enough (usually 30 mph) or not hit on the side or front where there are sensors, it doesn't deploy. And that doesn't account for times when they just fail.

If you're rear ended in a lot of cars your air bag wont deploy at all bc the sensors are on the front/sides and the steering wheel or seatbelt could do a lot of damage. I was rear ended while at a dead stop by someone going 40 mph and cracked my collarbone and a couple of ribs from slamming into the steering wheel. I had significant bruising to my chest and abdomen.

I have 5 kids, ages 10,9,4,2&1, the help from my mom and dad while my husband was working was wonderful. I was exhausted and had to focus on getting Water in, my kids needed more attention then I could give for the first week home.

I didn't need help taking care of me, just my brood :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
