The Savage Race

Recommended Posts

Everyone I am only 5 weeks out from surgery but I decided to train for the Savage Race coming to Maryland in July. Its a + mile curse with 25 obstacles through out. I been working on my cardio and lifting weights. Any other tips for train for this type of event would be great.

The web site is SavageRace.com if anyone wants to take a look at it. there are a few more happening this year in different states.

I'm not sure I could help with this kind of race. From my review of the website, its a little like a Tough Mudder race. If that's the case, it's less about racing and more about strength and team work. Are you racing with anyone else? From my experience in this kind of race, first time through you can really use a teammate to help you through the obstacles. Good luck. It looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks, and yes i have a few people going with me. I just broke the 300 mark and was thinking about 60lbs by then should be doable. that would put me around 240 with that and everything I am doing now I think ill be able to do most of the obstacles. I just really need to get my cardio up and being heavy right now and working out helps a lot with that. I figure by the time I drop more weight ill have Iron longs. lol

I am so thinking about doing the Tour De Cure with some people from work in May. Figure that could help me as well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
