what do we have to do to get food commercials Banned?

I truly believe all the tv commercials and radio commercials is what has America obeist. It's also one of the reasons we fail on our diets. Wish there was a way to stop them just like they did tobacco comercials!

TV and radio commercials don't make us fat. Failing to stop putting unhealthy foods in excess quantities in our mouths make us fat. If no commercials made you not fat, I would have been skinny because I don't watch television or listen to radio. I did, however, eat just about anything and everything whenever I wanted. Commercials didn't do that, I did.

I was thinking of how we could get rid of McDonalds! Lol those greasy, delicious, salty high calorie fries!

Everything revolves around food, whether it is having a family gathering or a business meeting... food makes its way to the center. We just have to learn to deal with it and not let it be the focus of attention.

now this is a funny posting....people eat food to live....and as long as we still have over indulgence, and people glorifying food, or and have healthy food cost more than junk food...McDonalds will remain the powerhouse place it is....

funny

If you have a DVR you could always record all your shows and watch them after they aired live and skip the commercials. For that matter I have the hopper from Dish and it records all prime time shows from the big 4 networks and after 24 hours after initial airing when you play the shows from the DVR it gives you the option to skip the commercials all together.

It's so true! Before surgery, everytime I'd see delicious food on TV I'd want it! One time I was watching a show about hamburgers so I went in the kitchen and made one at like 1 in the morning! Haha!

It definitely will lol! You made a good point with healthy food costing more then junk food. Such a shame! When I would eat fast food, the only time I ordered a salad was when I was dieting. But I do love chic fil a chicken nuggets but then I have to have those delicious waffle fries!

No the comercials didnt make me fat, it was the pictures and the description that did. Making people hear and see what they can eat if you go to their resturant. No telling you what exactly what the food was made with is what made us FAT. Just like cigarettes comercials didnt give people cancer, it was people buying and smoking them did. If they were to show exactly what was in their food do you think people would still go and eat those products? I think maybe not. Like at italian resturants, if you were to see them put that whole stick of butter in their alfredo sauce would you eat it? I wouldnt.

If advertising had no affect on people, companies wouldn't spend so much money on them.

To come to think of it, if there were no food comercials we would not even know about fast food so there for we would not be craving that food.

I look at the children of America and realize something has to give. We dont need these children with heart problems or diabetes. Cause ya know parent almost always give in to their children when they want something or when they dont have time to make them meals they usually settle for fast food.

You're telling me you had no idea the things you were eating weren't healthy? A picture doesn't make you fat. A description does not make you fat. All the commercials in the world will not make me go somewhere I don't want to go and eat something I don't want to eat. I take responsibility for the fact that I ate and ate and ate until I was nearly 400 pounds. Comparing cigarettes, which aren't needed in any way (though there are days I miss them!) and contain upwards of 4,000 chemicals each, to food, which is required if you'd like to continue living, is a false analogy.

And yes, if I saw them put the whole stick of butter in it, I would eat it. I have eaten it. Hell, I've cooked things that I put a whole stick of butter (and more) in. I make some amazing fudge and it took more than a stick of butter per batch. At the time I found it to be absolutely delicious. Now that I've not had much sugar in a long time, it'd probably set my teeth on edge.

Heck, with sugar, salt, and fat you really don't need much else to activate the reward center in the brain. We're too tied to our evolutionary history for it not to be that way.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
