4 days post op & had my 1st protein drink, now my tummy feels like it has a monster in it!

Recommended Posts

I've been on Clear Liquids since surgery Monday morning. I had my first Protein Drink today, and then went to lay down. Oh my gosh, I felt like I had a monster in my tummy kicking and punching like crazy! Plus it was growling at me! It didn't hurt, but was strange. It finally calmed down, but wow! My tummy is still real swollen, and I look 9 months pregnant. Whenever I get up, I have to "hold" my tummy even with my binder on. Letting it hang just hurts. Anyone relate?

I was there, I couldn't eat anything other than sugar free popsicles for about 5 days post-op. I kept the elastic support on the whole time, so I didn't experience the pain of letting my stomach hang.

I had surgery on monday, today I tried my first Protein choc drink, yogurt and cream of mushroom Soup, no problems, but your tummy does the watoosie dance after you eat, I had to nap today for an hour and still taking meds, hope to be off of them by sunday. Anyone try Tomato Soup yet? My instructions say its ok to drink v8 or Tomato juice. Mary

I too was sleeved on Monday and am finding it very difficult to get any Protein in. The supplements I got from my nut make me sick just smelling them. I can drink chocolate milk ( even though I shouldn't be) and I bought some baby food but I cannot stomach those chocolate shakes and Gelatin. How bad is it if I cannot get my protein in? And the gas......omg don't get me started!

My nut wasn't to happy either. The other patients in my post op classes had been eating it as well.

We were all on a PPI so she said if it didn't upset our stomachs then it was ok.

I cut my Soup with a little extra milk.

Have you tried the clear Isopure Protein drinks? They taste like Crystal Light with a slight whey aftertaste to me. You can get them at GNC. I say try one, and if you like it, yay! I also enjoyed the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth. Gotta get protein and liquid in, so might as well try them!

I love the costco brand Protein choc shakes, easy to take with you for when you go back to work and they taste great and not expensive. I bought some prosaris fruit protein from the doc's office that is 2.9 ounces, I been drinking those the last 4 days and today was my first choc Protein Shake, I thought I would have a mucous problem but didn't, I still have 3 small doses of loratap, I am stretching it out for when my stomach is really flippin, going to try Tomato Soup maybe after 10 days just in case better safe then sorry.

This could be my story! My midsection has been rumbling horribly (and emitting noxious fumes! LOL) since my first introduction of Protein drinks/broth after surgery. It's really bothersome as I worry about all the extra gas putting too much pressure on my new tummy! I think I'm going to try some egg Protein Powder instead of whey isolate and see if that makes any difference.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
