Hi! I'm new here - banded on 1/15/07. It's neat seeing people with the same issues I have. Like some port pain *still* - and trouble using the machines at the gym. Finally trying to eat solids, but figuring out how much of each and how to get enough protein is tough. It's so tempting to go back to liquids!

I like the idea of a workout challenge (I think - haha!) what did you have in mind?

He thinks some food is stuck, so he told me to go home and get some meat tenderizer and water (warm?) and drink it. He said it is not the best as far as taste goes (ya think?), but it will help break up any food that could be stuck. So I'm gonna try it tonight. Have anyone else heard of this "remedy"?

Try papaya enzymes. You can get them at wal-mart, a healthfood store or GNC. Others on the forum have used it and it worked for them.

new january bandster here as well... banded on 1/23/07 :)

Hello and welcome! I was banded one day before you  How are things going? I'm on soft solids now, and everything is working out pretty good so far!

Maria

Edie,

Do you have your ticker as part of your auto signature? That's where I have mine and it works okay.

As to the port, my Doctor says that's the one that takes the longest to heal. I was banded on 1/23 and mine is still sensitive as well. But it's getting better so I know that soon it will just be a faint memory of pain...lol Well, let's hope...

Good luck on your continued success! Congratulations on your first 14! :clap2:

Thank you for the help. I also got help from another soon to be bandster. Today was my first day of mushies. I went to lunch with a friend to Crepeville. I ordered a crepe with cottage cheese and spinach and ate the inside and left the crepe. I'm not eating very much, I'm not sure if it's restriction or fear of PBing.

Edie, I know what you mean. I haven't been 'pushing' the limit for fear of that. So far, I haven't had any problems with anything I've eaten. I am looking forward to the first fill though to help me keep moving on down the scale. Every day I don't overeat I'm more thankful that my 'off button' (aka the band) is now part of my life.

Hey Edie,

I'm not feeling 'full'...and not sure if I'm feeling 'hunger'. I too am afraid of PBing - and think that might be what is causing me not to eat too much. I'm 15 days out - and all that wonderful restriction/swelling is pretty much gone. I find myself wanting to eat more...I think. Does that sound crazy? Like now, I'm thinking of having cottage cheese, so I get some saiety.

Welcome to the January Band Crew!

Welcome to the January Band Crew - I've added you & Emerald1773 to our master list of January memebers. It will probably be updated next week in the forum.

Just a warning to all who think they aren't losing because the scales don't show it. If you've got clothes in your closet that you've been "saving", well you better start trying them on!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a jacket last summer with Mickey Mouse on it, got the biggest and crossed my fingers. Arms were tight and the zipper wouldn't meet unless I pull it up over my butt! Tried it on last night and it zips over the butt!!! Tried on other "one of these days" clothes and there are a few I'll have to garage sale

(darn :D ). I've only lost about 21 pounds and the scale hasn't moved much for the last 3 weeks! Let me know if this has happened to anyone else!

Just checking in !!! Happy Valentines Day!!

I am doing good!!! My hubby bought me an Ipod. I wanted one because my favorite workout music always gets me in the mood to workout. Now, to learn how to move my music from Windows Media Player to Itunes!!!

I went to Dennys for breakfast. Had 2 sausages, 2 bacon and maybe 1/2 of the scrambled eggs. Didn't eat the pancakes or hash browns.

I am still not hungry and it is 3pm.

How are you all doing today??

Any goals?

My goal is to get my playlist on the Ipod and start working out!!!!!

Anyone want to do a workout challenge??

I'm getting an ipod too! We will probably get it next week.

A workout challenge sounds great - although I can't lift weights yet, but I'm ready to pump up my exercising!

I am fitting into clothes that I wore 20lbs lighter! So - I'm a firm believer in taking the measurements and judging off that instead of the scales.

I will be one month post op on Sunday, I plan on taking my measurements again (I took them before surgery) and see the amount of inches I lost. I am excited to check them out.

I am 4 weeks out now. I have joined a gym, walk 20-30 mins 6 days a week. Also have had 3 personal training sessions and love it. I feel so much better than I ever did before. I do a 20 min fast walk on a tread mill and then a 30 min training session. Yesterday was the 3rd and I am not even sore today:clap2: .

I will say that the scales have stalled out on me and I also can feel myself falling back into old habits. I get a fill Monday the 19th and hope that will help alot.

I thought I would share the Ten Commandments of Lap Band with everyone - I found this on another website....

1. Thou shalt consume thy protein first, followed by thy veggies and fruits. If thou, then hast any room left thou shalt comusme thy carbs lastly!

2. Thou shalt take the tiniest of bites, placing thy fork and thy spoon upon thine table, that thou shalt have more time between bites to savor that which thou hast eaten, and allow thy stomach adequate time to inform thy brain of thine fullness.

3. Thou shalt chew and chew and when thou has done so, thou shalt chew some more, lest thy band rise up and smite thee, causing in thy chest great pain, and spewing forth.

4. Thou shalt drink of thy water, copiously, consuming all that has been recommended to thee, that thou mayest be spared the pangs of hunger and dehydration, and thou shalt thus, also keep thy kidneys well flushed, that thou shalt not develop stones to aggrieve thee.

5. Thou shalt exercise in a manner that thou mayest choose, of thine own accord, providing that thou art faithful to thine execise regimen, that thou shalt not falter on thy journey to thine smaller self.

6. Thou shalt honor thy band and maintain it well, that it shalt be a steadfast friend to thee throughout thine entire life. Thou wilt, from time to time, as thou hast been told, obtain for it the fills that it needest that it may then help thee in thy hours of need, keeping it always in perfect adjustment for thine benefit.

7. Thou shalt not worry and gnash thy teeth, becoming aggrieved at those times when thy losses seemingly stop and thy weight remaineth constant, remembering then that thou tookest long to acquire thine pounds, and that thy pounds must then take time for loss.

8. Thou shalt maintain a log or dairy of thine measurements, that thou mayest truly perceive the effect of they band when thine scale doth pause in it's downward progress.

9. Thou shalt join into and participate within thy local support community, for without the input, experience and love of they fellow bandsters, thou shalt have a much more difficult time in thy journey, and when thou art well upon thy road, thou shalt then likewise assist those who followest in thine footsteps that they too might be successful in their own diminishment.

10. Thou shalt beware of thine " soft caolries syndrome", keeping always in thy mind that thou canst thus sabotage thine efforts and thine investment and lead thee then therefore into depression and guilt. As once stated "Just because thou canst, it meaneth not that thou shouldith".<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Hi all,

Well I went for my first fill yesterday. I went to the surgical center in Houston, on Main street. I was banded on Jan. 19th- Dr. Spivak. I have lost a total of 12.5lbs. That is really ok with me, I did not do a pre-band diet. I went to the seminar on wednesday- banded on friday- so no time to diet before band.

I was ravenous before I went in to get the fill, two hours after I ate. I felt as though I had no restriction. Joy was the person that administered the fill. She put in 1.6cc- Felt that was a good amount. Last night I was still on soft foods- She told me to eat mashed up fish- but not just to eat cottage cheese or other liquid foods. I guess I felt different- not really sure. I believe I heard that it takes a couple of days to really tell how much restriction I have. Is that true?

The fill itself kind of hurt- Joy had to give a shot to numb area- seems my port is well below skin. Probly just because I'm fat. After that all went well, and she asked that I remind whoever does my next fill what she did.

Is my experience similar to your 1st fill?:D
