BabyGotBack- Thank you for posting the information about fills. I will be sure to use it before my 1st fill in about 3 weeks.

I just wanted to check in. I went to see my nutritionist today. She advanced my diet further to soft foods, which will be good. I am feeling the need to increase my diet to the next level. I am also happy to report that I am now down 30lbs. I am so excited. I'll check back in over the weekend. Have a good night! Gigi

The Only Meds I am taking for pain is Motrin for my joint pain and I have taken it for years.

Perhaps our dreams are more vivid because our stomachs are not so full and our bodies don't have to put forth all the effort to digest all that food that may also allow us to sleep deeper which in turn allows us to dream more ? Who Knows ?? But I am glad to be dreaming again after 11 yrs.

Hope you are all having a restful weekend !

Joanne

How are you guys losing weight so fast? I had mine done the 17th of January and since January, pre-op diet included, i've only lost 20 pounds. What do you guys do?? Let me in on the secrets!!

Since my surgery I've lost 37 pounds. I don't know how I did, honestly. While I was on liquids I lost 20 pounds, then an addition 17 lbs one month post-op. I'm not going to weigh myself until my first fill on 3/21.

I don't know what the secret is. I only eat 1/4 c or 2 oz a meal, I ate 3 "meals" and two "snacks" so that I'm satisfied. For my meals I hold liquids 1 hour before and 1.5 hours afterwards. Snacks though I keep kind of liquidy (like applesauce) so that I don't have to do the hold Fluid rule. I also make sure to eat my Protein first. For example, right now I ate 1 oz of ground turkey and 1/8 cup of collard greens. I made sure to eat the turkey first so that if I did get full, it would be on protein. I ate the whole 2 oz and I'm stuffed! So now I won't drink anything until midnight.

I also make sure to exercise 5 x a week. I do a brisk 2 mile walk w/ weights that I found on Comcast OnDemand.

For some inspiration, here's what I ate today, also if you want you can read my journal because that will have some meal ideas too:

Breakfast--One scrambled egg

Lunch--2 slices of turkey breast with 1 T of low fat veggie cream cheese (made it into a roll-up)

Snack--Atkin's Protein Shake

Dinner--1 oz ground turkey and 1/8 cup of collard greens

I hope I could help with some tips

Keep up the good work :clap2:

So, I signed up for a volunteer program at my local aquarium and I got an email saying they want to set up an interview and the training starts on Thursday. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! I have been hanging out at this aquarium since I was like 5. I have tears in my eyes I'm so excited, this is like a dream come true!!!!! Sometimes too they will offer employment for volunteers as well which I'm hoping is what will happen to me.

My ultimate goal is to go back to college and get my B.S. in Marine Sciences. This is hopefully the first step.

OMG I'm so excited I can't SLEEP!

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes. I've had such a bad week this past week and this really brought my spirits up big time! It's so funny, I told everyone on here before I told my parents (well it's 11:49 pm and they're asleep) so you guys are officially the first to know!

Shues!!! Congratulations! I said that if I ever hit the lottery, I'd go back to school for my degree in marines sciences. My passion started years ago with my trips to the islands, swiming with the dolphins and scuba diving. Oh wow...you'll have to get pics!!!!:myscared:

Congrats Shues! I have a feeling my youngest son will be following the same path. He has always had a fascination for our aquarium.

Hey January Bandsters,

Is anyone else now experiencing heartburn? I'm meaning those of us who did not have a heartburn issue before surgery? I'm not sure...but yesterday, around 4 p.m., I started with some bad heartburn. And here I am again today - around the same time- feeling some heartburn. Coincidence? Maybe. Foods shouldn't really be an issue - not eating anything crazy either day. Heck, could be stress for all I know - tomorrow is my first day back since surgery.

Just wondering if anyone banded around the same time as me is in the same boat.

Sheri

Hi all

I am excited I have always had issues with getting myself motivated to work out. I am so busy during the day and I am not a morning person. A new gym is opening up close to my job and home and the best part is drum rollllllllllll!!!!! It's 24 hours I am so excited. They just opened today. They have private showers and dressing rooms.

Also I have been working on making better choices and I couldn't help but get on the scale today and I lost 7.5 lbs. It's not the 20 or 30+ like all of you all but I am praising God for the little because he is going to make it much.

I am glad to have found this thread because I have no other outside support. God has blessed me with an outlet to give my success and shortcomings. I say shortcomings because God is my guide and he can never fail. I am just feeling good this evening and wanted to share.

I look forward to losing all with you as we gain life.

Love you all

Be and Stay Encouraged!!!

I don't think I was having heartburn, but trapped air again. It seems to be gone now, thank the Lord. I have to stop using straws, but when I go out to eat I CAN'T drink without a straw.

I don't think I've ever had heartburn before, so I don't know if I get it or not. I do burp a lot more now! At first it was embarassing, but now I'm used to it!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
