I hope to be in your boat angyl! I still do not have final insurance approval but they expect to get it in Dec after I have jumped through my last ring of fire for the ins company and finish my 6 month clinically supervised weight loss attempt....what a joke! Try a 20 year weight loss attempt. Just the ins co. pathetic attempt to delay the inevitable. I will be going to the Cleveland Clinic and they are about 3 weeks out after I get ins approval and approval takes about 3 weeks so I could possibly get scheduled for the last week of Jan!!

What insurance company do you have? I haven't actually gotten the insurance approval yet, but they social worker in charge of getting the pre-certifications said that my insurance company is very good about approving. She did mention the supervised weight loss program, usually for 3 months, with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I told her I was concerned because everything seems to be going too smoothly for me. I would have to go through all of this just to get disappointed. I got my date on Wednesday and haven't heard anything back, so I guess things are moving along.

Because of my high deductable on my insurance, I'm waiting till Jan to start my consultation to keep from having to pay this yrs deduct. and next yrs too.... I wish the surgery was next week I'm tried of waiting already and I haven't even been approved yet. I've talked to the lady in the approval office and she thinks I shouldn't have any problems for an approval. I think it would be better for me to wait until after the holidays, but I hate the wait. I guess because I have to think about it too much... Meantime I think of all the things I love to do, that hopefully I'll be able to do again.... Water Ski, dancing, look good in jeans...... Can't wait!!!!!!!!!! I know it won't be easy but I'm ready.:)

Okay, its official, I got a call from the docs office today to schedule my surgery and I told them January 18th, and they said no problem....its official, I'm going to be banded!

Now I'm a bit nervous.....

I have so many appointments to attend BEFORE the surgery

1/2 Psych eval

1/3 - Upper GI

1/4 - deposit due for surgery

1/8 - Diatician

1/8 - Pre-surgery Consultation

No BC pills - I don't take them anyhow, no IBprofen 3 weeks prior to surgery, switch to tylenol products.

Oh my I can't believe this, now i'm nervous.....but excited at the same time.

Tonya - you are going to be one busy girl that week! Whew! I had over a month to do all that! LOL

Also, I saw you asked someone else about pre-op diets, so I thought I'd just pipe in here on that. I have to do Optifast for 4 weeks pre-op (shakes, bars, and soups). I won't be having much of a New Year's Eve celebration this year, but with this big of a carrot dangling in front of me, I think I can suck it up! :)

I have BCBS of Minnesota, and they called me yesterday and approved my surgery. I will schedule mine for Janaury as well. With Christmas, family coming in from out of state, I just don't want to be trying to prep for the surgery. The Holiday's are stressful enough. Besides, everyone's eating at my house, so it would be nearly impossible for me to focus on pre-op diets. I haven't picked the date yet, but I'm hoping for sometime in the last two weeks of January.

I was supposed to be banded Dec. 18, but my financing may not come in by the date I need to pay, buy a couple of days. So, that might put me in January. I will find out by Friday afternoon. I was on the pre op and now I just want to blow it. I guess I shouldn't because there is a slim to none chance I may get the money by Friday, but most likely not.

I will be posting recipes from this awesome book I got. It is a recipe book from a lady who used to do recipes for Gourmet magazine. She got banded and modified all her recipes. They sound really great!

Hi I am Mae from Il-I have been approved by my insurance, have started the evals and with psych, dietician, have pulmonologist next week...and had ultrasound...they said I have gallstones-but I guess from what I read, that they can remove gallbladder at same time...From the dietician I learned a little about the pre-op diet and after wards...hopefully we'll get a date soon...I will be with Dr Rantis at Kane Center in Elk Grove/Arlington Hghts IL...it will be good to keep with everybody as we go through this journey....:)

Welcome everyone! I was feeling so left out on the December Bandsters forum =(

Sunshine..my name is Jen, and no, I have no pre-op diet, which I am starting to think is weird. I am going to follow up tomorrow with the doctor's office. I am doing everything possible to avoid complications, including no partying/drinking on new years, and no overdoing it for the holidays.

I know how you feel about the appointments. I was able to breeze through them, now I am all anxious because I still have 3 weeks to wait. Sigh

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
