Decaf Coffee- When is it too soon?

Recommended Posts

2 weeks out and I've been enjoying Decaf coffee. Is it too soon? I hear the acid in it isn't good for the tummy but I've been having no problems. I could drink it everyday but wondering if that's a good idea or not...

Not sure what your Dr recommended but I was having a regular coffee from after week 2. Hasn't been a problem.

My paperwork says coffee, regular or Decaf is fine, but limit to two cups per day.

My doc said no coffee or tea - regular or Decaf for a YEAR. I drink herbal tea but it is just not the same - but since I'm a rule follower (always have been) I will work to follow his instructions. I do miss it tho.

Decaf tea and coffe were on my two week post op plan, but unfortunately... Since surgery, the coffee tastes awful! I have noticed that many flavors have intensified. I thought it was the horrid hospital Jello, but found out that most flavorings are way too strong. I was a huge coffee lover pre op and have been completely disgusted the two times i tried it. I had maybe 2 oz and then dumped the rest! I so hope this disgust extends to simple carbs !

They gave me Decaf black with splenda or sweet n low, at the hospital. It is a natural laxitive. Also it is on my required liquid intake sheet at least 4 to 8oz a day. For 21 days. So I enjoy it also warm decaf tea. hope that helps. If you have questions call your doc office.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
