100% covered with Kaiser

Recommended Posts

I been in my pre-op stage for 3.5 months because my insurance requires bariatric patients to take a 12 week course called Options. We met once every other week total of 6 meetings. This class teaches how to eat pre and post, pychological, social, physiological and emotional changes and ways to cope. Medications and vitimans take and avoid. Dealing with family and friends. Teaches you what type of eater you are with daily food logs. We talk about depression, body type everything from A-Z to me surgery a success. We also did our labs throughout the course (no co-pay) and this Tue I will be going for my physical, ekg and x-rays with no co-pay....Kaiser supports bariatric surgery 100%. With this being said with Kaiser you don't pay a penny out of pocket.

Kimkai I have Kaiser too make sure you don't have a copay or coinsurance because then you will have to pay that prior to surgery I ended up paying my $400 deductible and another $638 for my 10% coinsurance. Which I wasn't aware of until two weeks prior to my surgery....

Hi I had my surgery through Kaiser as well. I believe it depends on the particular coverage you have. In our options classes they told us to call membership services before the surgery to find out what coverage you have. One man in the class had a $1,500.00 co-pay. My co-pay was $200.00. Not bad to 3 days and 2 nights in the hospital. Best wishes for your surgery Kimkai.

Ok thanks that's good to know. I don't want to mislead people. I have no co-pay however 200 is close to nothing and a blessing as well. Thanks

I have kaiser and I only have a $5 copay for surgery. It's base on what your company pays/negotiates for. I'm very happy with kaiser. The 6 month process was long but I'm through that phase now. :)

Sorry to hear that...i faild to mention it's based on what type of coverage you have with Kaiser. You also have to have a bmi of 40 or more ......or some type of comorbidity with a bmi of less than 40. Hope things work out for your friend.

i know her bmi is waaayyy over 40. im surprised that kaiser doesn't cover it because what i have learned is it depends on your employer and we also have aetna and united healthcare available and those plans cover it. i wonder why our employer elected not to have it covered with kaiser. hmmm. i did tell her to fight it because she has a host of obesity related issues and has high bmi so i dont see why not.

That's a hard one....maybe time to change coverage during open enrollment.

The copay depends on your plan.

Pre op my bmi was over 50 and I have sleep apnea.

I paid 100 for surgery.

Then again, I didn't have to do Options.

Just like other insurance, some plans cover Bariatric surgery, some do not.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
