Good choices of CERAL?

Recommended Posts

I found this Special K Protein CERAL today. One 3/4 cup serving has 10g Protein 120 calories 19g total carbs. With 1 cup of Skim plus milk 11g protein 17g total carbs.

I really love CERAL and was wondering if this was a better choice of one.

Any thoughts....

I just saw that the other day and purchased it also. Kashi Go Lean Crunch has a Honey Almond Flax version that is 9gm of Protein. The only thing I'm being aware of is the additional carbs I'm taking in having Cereal.< /p>

Didn't care for it at all :( This one has NO taste at all and I do like Special K Cerals. It was hard to chew, and I hate to use a cliche but tasted like cardboard. Was very surprised as all of their other cereals are so darn good! Just my humble opinion. I haven't looked at them yet to compare but check the Kashi cereals, I know they are higher in Protein. Good Luck on your quest!

I've tried that cereal and I did like it. I stopped buying it because I am a carb addict and cereal in general is not a good way for me to start my day regardless of the Protein content. If you can eat it and it does not set you on the wrong track then I say go for it. Good luck.

My nutritionist advises against processed cereals as there are carbs that aren't getting reported in them. Her rule of thumb is that the carbs need to be 1/2 the Protein. So with the milk, you are looking at 36g of carbs and 21g protein. I'm at 60g carbs for the day, so to me that's a lot. Just means more cardio :D.

I haven't tried any "cold" cereals since my surgery. I'm currently week7 and have only had oatmeal (good grain, low carb, no sugar). I did previously find the KASHI Go Lean CRUNCH cereals good prior to surgery... I haven't found many Protein benefits to cereal other than the added skim milk...but if it helps get the grams in, I'm willing to try it! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
