I want a Big Mac in a bad way

Recommended Posts

Ok, ok. I just posted in another forum that I miss Mexican food. Well, the craving today was McDonalds. I can't help it. I especially love the fries.

I had my surgery Nov. 3, and things have been going well. The liquids thing is pretty hard. I am losing, though, and that feels good.

I told my husband how badly I wanted some fries and he urged me to come straight here and post it. He knows that I read this site faithfully and that everybody here is just so supportive.

Anyway, just looking for a few words of encouragement.

Cheers !

I agree with Jack completely! I had a craving for McD's FFs a few weeks ago. Gave in and bought them, ate one, chewed it to goo and it was the most revolting thing I've ever eaten.

By chewing it that much the texture was awful and all I could taste was the grease. It left a film in my mouth for hours....needless to say, my french fry craving is forever gone!! :clap2:

Once you're to the "normal" food stage, what I've found that stops a salty craving is to buy a small single serving bag of baked lays potato chips. By doing a small bag "in the moment" they aren't in the house to cause temptation.

Oh I had such a craving for McD's back in April. A qtr pounder with cheese and the fries...YUMMY so DH and I went there we were driving home from somewhere. I felt that it was ok to go there I hadn't in months and why not.

So we ordered and were sitting in the car. DH had a bite and said the bread was stale I said give it back and brought both of our burgers back in to get then replaced. He is much faster at eating than me even before banding. He had a bite said the roll was fine. My mouth was not watering. I opend my container and it looked and smelled yummy. I then picked the lusious burger up and there was a puddle of grease in the box and grease dripping off the burger. I looked at that grease fat mixure and felt sick. Said to DH I can't eat this crap and gave it to him. By this point the fries were cold so why bother eating them. I went inside and ordered a sundea with peanuts and hot fudge. I forgot the calories but it wasn't bad. Ate that and enjoyed every bite.

I wish I could remember the date because that was a major turning point in my life for McD's. Whenever I think about how good one of those burgers and fries would be I visulize that box of grease and fat and it quickly goes away.

Hope this helps it helped me all over again just writting it down..lol..

You will have little stories like this before no time. French fries are not worth it. Most likely you will shortly have a FF experience. And most likely you will have it more than once and then decide to hold off until the end of the meal. Then you'll discover that they are cold and really not good.

Losing is awesome! Your going to love it. Good luck sounds like you are already making the right choices by coming here to say HELP!!

Hi Fitzgerald: This Soup may help with the mexican food craving - it did for me.

I am really glad to read this post right now. I am on my third day of the liquid diet with NO cheating whatsoever and I want the Dorritos so bad that I know my boyfriend has in our pantry downstairs!! Just a taste I tell myself, and then I have to be honest like Jack mentioned, first of all it wont be worth it and second of all, i cant have just a taste, I truly want them ALL! My BF has offered to take his beloved dorritos to work, i may take him up on the offer!

You guys are great. And thanks for the recipe ! It looks delicious.

It's funny. I can't ever imagine not wanting McDonalds. My parents used it as positive reinforcement when I was a kid, so I have all these good memories tied to the place. I'm working that out in the therapy.

Reading these posts has really helped. It just makes me feel like I'm not alone. I don't know what I would do without this site !

Hi,

I am enjoying this thread. I am pre-op (going to surgeon tomorrow to hopefully get my date) and I have been thinking about the McD's thing. I have not had it for probably 2 months and had really cut down over the last 6 months or so. I was having that sick thought of :"what if I never have another burger again?" and wondering if I should try to dqueeze one in before surgery. I think I will pass but it is definitely something I considered. I have been following WW and trying to cut down onthe eating before the surgery so I will not have such a huge shock but it is tough! Anyone else have those pre-surgery cravings and did you give in??? I have 2 restaurant gift cards that I feel like I have to use up now since they will be such a waste after (is that nuts?).

Vegge,

I have seen the documentary on Supersize Me. I saw it in school (college) a couple of weeks ago. What an eye opener!! I knew McD's was bad, but my oh my, I didn't know it was that bad.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. You won't regret the preop diet. It will help you so much.

Take care.

On whether to eat before the surgery ..... I confess - I pigged out. I was supposed to be on liquids the whole week before surgery. To hell with that, I thought.

But I think my overeating that week contributed to the gas pain I felt after the surgery, so if I had to do it over again, I would stick to liquids.

You're on the right road ! Good luck.

Thank you for the encouraging words! I am on my eighth day of the liquid diet now and have lost nearly 15 lbs and only cheated that one time! Whew, did it feel good to confess! I really have heard that people who eat a few days before the surgery (especially the yummy junk stuff :nervous ) tend to have more gas pains... I am only three days away now and I cant wait!

I was addicted to McDonalds when I was in my late teens... never thought I'd break away but now, if DH says lets go to McD's I get PO'd b/c it just doesn't taste good to me anymore. All I can think about is that tiny burger and all those calories

You can do it, you can break away. Think about all the harm that frankenfood has done to your life and think about this new chance you have to break free.

I was craving a Big Mac a month ago, went for it and was totally disappointed. It just wasn't worth it. I had to eat such small bites and still ended up PBing...with the PB I would have only been able to eat 1/4 of it.....I'll never go back.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
