Possible pulled muscle?

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 days post op & I think I may have pulled a muscle in my left side near my incision. I over did it yesterday cleaning house & have noticed tenderness when I cough or turn a certain way. Now everytime I twist or bend or use that muscle I have pain. I feel like its a pulled muscle. Anyone else had a similar issue? What can be done for it?

Happened to me too. Occurred when I would bend over or stand up. Was like a burning stabbing pain that went away after a short period. It went away but I was concerned until I emailed my surgeon. He said as long as it was managed with pain meds (I didn't take any), it should be fine. It did go away but it was annoying for a bit. He did say to call back if it got worse or didn't go away. Might check with your surgeon.

This just happened to me in the beginning of the year, lower ab area from over doing exercising. I had that same pain. I talked to the trainer at the gym and then followed up with my doctor. Both told me to watch for any bulging, but that it was likely a pulled muscle. I suffered through that pain daily for about 2 weeks and then it slowly got better. Hope this helps! And slow down! lol

Happened to me too - take it easy, rest, get plenty of fluids and Protein - take pain medications if you need it. It will go away and get better.

Good Luck!

This same pain just happened to me. All I did was try to sit down with a leg under me and it made me stretch the left side of my torso too much. Since then (this past Monday), I have been having alot of pain..as if I am almost starting over again from surgery (about 12 days ago). Should I ice it up? Any other tips besides pain meds?

My doc warned me (well he told my husband) that I should expect a burning feeling near the large incision on my left side around two weeks post op. And he was right.

It's so refreshing to hear that a doctor let you know that this was likely to happen and is completely normal! :)

I wish more would send this info home with their patients. It would probably alleviate a lot of worries..

Yup-still didn't keep from worrying about it! I asked him over and over to tell me exactly what the surgeon said! My poor dear husband. He thinks I should get paid to worry.

I'm about 7 mo post op & my pain completely went away not long after I posted this. I just learned to take it easy. I was just really paranoid about messing my sleeve up.

I’m 16 days post op. Same thing is happening to me except it’s on my right side at waist level. This pain is a horrible burning, ripping and muscle spasm type of pain. I really hope this goes away soon. 😫

No, but I personally think it was a muscle pull from the surgery. It lasted almost 2 weeks and slowly went away everyday. The more I stretched it the better it felt.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
