Sannah...oh gosh yes' date=' I remember refried Beans while starting on pureed level foods. Funny, now I can eat anything but remembering that feeling of being able to have something other than liquids was devine. I agree, go slow. eggs were very hard to tolerate in the beginning for me so hot Cereal hit the spot for Breakfast. I would start the day with Decaf chai tea and take my PPI wait the 30 minutes and have hot cereal with milk on top. In the beginning you can make it as thin as you can tolerate, or just do it by adding more milk. Great with a little cinammon & sweetener. Mid morning I would have my first Protein shake and my Vitamins, I like the Pure Protein in Frosty chocolate (made with Water in the shaker bottle, not blended because it gets too thick and frothy, hard to get down). lunch would usually be Soup, thick and creamy or maybe yogurt. After lunch, some MIO iced tea, sip, sip, sip...mid afternoon another shake...then dinner, refried Beans with cheese, ricotta bake, mashed potatoes w/chicken gravy and I would add canned chicken as it is very soft, chili beans (pureed).....evenings...SF Jello or pudding, maybe a cup of SF hot chocolate. As you move to soft foods, crock pot meals are perfect.

Small portions, try and measure a few ounces at a time, and stop as soon as you feel the slightest bit full or no longer hungry. It does not take much to fill your new little tummy.

At 10 months out I am still amazed at my restriction level...and I love it !!!

Have a beautiful day!![/quote']

Just spending a relaxing evening at home with my husband and two girls. I think we will watch a love story girly movie and make the hubby fix us popcorn hehe

He watches the girly movies with us and then tries to hide his face when he is teary eyed during the emotional parts... We love it hehe

Are you all doing anything for Valentines?

I wish I was up in Alaska!! I love the cold and snow!! Enjoy a little bit for me. I hope everything is going smoothly!!

Yes' date=' can you believe it? I am eating puréed food? Isn't it crazy!!! I had refitted black Beans. This am I had ground turkey sausage and gravy. So. Sounds like this fear is normal? I had the stents for six weeks and the was supposed to get that claw. I can only imagine a different set of emotions come with the claw. I would be worrying daily if it moved or came undone. Did you? We're you aloud to eat with the claw in place? That would be scary!!! Have a photo of the claw?

Yay!! I am so going to make this!! I have this!! But I couldn't have done with our all of you guys!! There is just no way!! I really need this kind of support. You guys know what the sleeve and or leaks are like!!! I can't thank you enough!!!

Don't work too hard!! Have a little fun!!

Best,

Sannah[/quote']

Alaska was lovely. Our house there is "done" as opposed to our house here which is in a five year phased restoration so having closets and a working kitchen is such a treat. I am going to end up having to return several times in the next couple of months so I'll get to enjoy the house again soon. I did have a run in with someone on the job site who I will likely have to deal with. That drove me nuts and kept me up LOL I hate getting rid of people but she's treating me like an idiot and that won't fly if she does not catch a hint SOON

I got off subject LOL I"m a bit bothered :P

The claw looks like a tiny (like smaller than a finger nail) hair clip with forks on each side that just wrap around the damaged tissue and hold it like a hair clip does a wad of hair. Crazy stuff but the goal is that the tissue, being too badly damaged to heal itself as it is with the leak flowing will seal up the leak and then become less inflamed and eventually (within six weeks) grow together.

When it was installed I was basically back at day one again. Fluids, then from clear to solid fluids, then purees, soft foods, etc. You don't progress beyond the soft foods while the clip is still trying to work (I think I was 8 weeks before I chewed much). I still can't have vegetable or fruit skins nor can I have salad (six months). The only way you know the claw is still there is via xray. So they install it and check it every so often and then at six weeks do a leak test again to see where you are. Mine was still there at six weeks (very unusual) but yes, throughout every single day I worried that damn thing might have let go. You don't feel it like the stints so the only way aside from the xrays to know if it's gone is that your leak symptoms develop again. At that point they would likely have removed my stomach :( So I worried and worried about that thing working. I was very lucky. It really is a much easier process than the stints. I also had very strict instructions about lifting, any physical activity, etc. I kind of kept really still for six weeks LOL

SOmeone asked about valentines day. DH and I are apart again...normal stuff in our life over the years :( but DS has made us valentines which he hid in his closet in his room. (Nanny told me) So this morning he told me that he thought the dog had pooped in the closet and it was very messy and it was very dusty and it was very bad and he wanted to clean it all up so I wouldn't have to so PLEASE MOM STAY OUT OF THE CLOSET LOL Apparently in his 7 year old mind he thinks a pile of dog poop might keep me out of it heh heh

My brother is visiting and he couldn't resist offering to clean it up heh heh

I bought a cake and Cookies and balloons and a stuffed doggie he wanted from the grocery store so I plan on surprising him in the morning :) He's always been with me on valentines day so we make it a tradition to make a big deal of it, then we'll Celebrate with dad again when he returns.

Hello!

Your Valentines Day sound perfect!! What a great hubby and Dad! I love it!! :). So funny that he hides his face. How old are your girls?

Well we got our daughter a little gift. Balloons and a toy. My husbands weekend is Monday-Wednesday. So he won't be here most of the day. Venla (my daughter) and I will probably do some playing and activities together. She is still so young 16 months.

I hope all enjoy the movie and popcorn!! :)

Best,

Sannah

I saw my PCP today. I have been seeing her for 15years and she care for my entire family.

The surgeon who did my sleeve called her and kept her in the know of my condition. I talked to my PCP about the care I received after my leak. My PCP is under the impression the surgeon is mad at me for having a leak and that she is misdirecting her anger and taking it out on me. My husband has long thought this as well.

Bummer that this is the case, but confirmation of this is nice.

I followed all directions to a t!! I do not blame the surgeon or myself for the leak. I have come to terms with my leak and realize that these things just happen. It's not been fun for me to endure a leak and rest assured I wouldn't wish this on myself or anyone else!!

I get that it is also hard for my surgeon to have patients with complications. But let's get real and show some heart!

Unbelievable!!

I am in shock!!

Sannah

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
