Had Chinese food today - never again!

Recommended Posts

So, since my surgery on Nov 19 I've been eating pretty healthy, and up to now have tried to avoid situations where I would be faced with really unhealthy food. Today I went out for lunch for a work thing and some Chinese staple dishes were ordered for everyone to have. I should have asked for my own healthy dish, like shrimp and steamed veggies, but felt weird about doing so. Well, from the choices I opted to eat the beef and broccoli, as the other dishes involved rice and lo mein, etc. and wanted to avoid the carbs. I ate some of the regular beef and broccoli and immediately felt horrible!! I almost vomited. I cannot believe that I used to scoff down plates of this stuff. How things have changed!! I only hope my new habits stay with me for my lifetime. Lesson learned today!!

Sorry you are feeling bad! At least you didn't eat the greasy noodle things !! Imagine how that would of felt!!

Next time just say you would just like the soup!

I like " hot and sour soup" or some people eat egg drop...

Ugh... I had that experience also when I was about 2 months out. Never again. However, I can tolerate Thai food, which tends to be healthier.

do you feel sick because it feels stuck or is it just a full feeling?

I must be weird because I've had Chinese food- and other foods that a lot of people have said they got sick on commonly post op- well I've had them and was totally fine. I wish I had lost a taste for certain foods but not at all :(

The beef & broccoli was very oily, so I think that must have had something to do with it. Also, the broccoli was very crunchy, and I usually cook my veggies fairly well. I love Thai food and chicken satay but haven't tried either in a restaurant yet (have only had the Weight Watchers Thai noodels with chicken, lol). One day at a time.

I go for my lab work in a week in anticipation of my 3 month checkup. Fingers crossed!

I have no issue eating anything at all. No sickness no nothing. My sleeve is of iron! I just don't understand why ppl have reactions because its the same stomach just smaller nothing's changed but the size

I do have pretty close to an Iron stomach, but now certain things go down better than others, I guess. I mean I used to eat plates of this stuff, and now I can't, which is certainly better for me.

I'm sure all will go well. I had mine the second week of January, all is good.

Makes me sick to think how much Chinese food I could put away pre-op. Ugh.

I don't think it is the stomach per say , but your body. When you give up fats and other foods like that, your body doesn't always know how to handle it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
