Ok, guys I am worried about the Hair loss I am experienceing. I was sleeved September 10, 2012, a little over 4 months out. I am on levothyroxine due to a thryroidectomy 2 years ago and have been on levothyroxine for about 8 years prior to that surgery. I also understand that hair loss is a side effect of levothyroxine. I never noticed much hair loss until recently and I would like to know if there is any sleever out there who has thyroid issues and has been thru this experience? My blood work done 3 months out showed I was low on Iron and Vitamin B12 so I am making sure to take all Vitamins recommended by my surgeon. I take Biotin as well. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.!

Were you aware that almost all WLS patients have hair loss? Compounding the side effects of levothyroxine, I wouldn't be suprised. I did not have thyroid issues and lost about half my hair beginning at the 6 month mark.

Search the site for hair loss and you will get a wealth of threads.

I have lint rollers in my car, in my office and at home. My vsg was 9/26. I get a B12 shot monthly but don't take Biotin. My hair is super thick so more of an aggravation than anything. I'm shedding like a bear. A very glamorous girl bear, but still....eww

Yes I was aware of the Hair loss. I want to hear what other thyroid patients had experienced and if they had advice I could benefit from.

Hair loss is from wls. I take Biotin and silica and it helps my hair grow back faster. It didn't stop it from falling out. But now my hair grows 5 times faster. :)

I have been on levothyroxine 150 mcg since 2003. ... Never lost hair. I do expect thinning in a few months from wls though and am taking Biotin and zinc and doing scalp massages with a good stimulating shampoo..itnis all about the follicle..not the shaft although poor conditioned hair can break as well.

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I take armour thyroid. My hair was falling out pretty bad, I had my 3 month hormone check and I had to double my dose. I also was extremely fatigued. I really didn't know if it was from the surgery or my hormones. It got better and I feel better since the increase. I also take Biotin and got biotin Shampoo and conditioner. I did learn another thing that has contributed to my hair being dry and dull. My Water softener isn't working. I have very hard well Water. It's on the list to fix tomorrow!

FYI, eating spinach can help your Iron. I juice it, cook with it and use it with salad and in place of lettuce if I attempt a sandwich. Found 1/2 a small pita bread works better than a slice of bread. Good luck. I just got my 3 month out labs back and iron was spot on. Iron supplement are not my friend.

They say low Protein can cause hair loss too. Make sure you've got that in check.

Hope this helps

get your B up and your hair will stop falling out. I take liquid B12 complex and love it. I buy it from Puritans pride it is their brand. I just had my levels checked late 10 month post op and they are great. :)

Thanks to you all for your comments! I am making sure I am taking my required Vitamins. I am also looking into the silica idea as well. I recently bought a hair product called Q-10 at Target that has Keratin in it. It is a leave in conditioner. I noticed a difference right away in texture and shine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
