Slow and Steady not my style

Recommended Posts

My 5 +week checkup was quite frustrating. I had just broken my stall. I was happy. Preop I lost 30, post op 28 with 42 left to goal. My doctor said I must slow down to 2 lbs a month in order to prevent loose skin and Hair loss. He said we loose weight for 18 months after surgery and that I would loose too much if I don't slow down. I would just like to loose the next 20, then slow down. I want to shop in regular sizes sooo bad. Any other doctors out there saying this? I don't see how just a couple of pounds is possible per month with the few calories we take in, even with the extra shakes he has me drinking. I emailed my NUT with no response. Frustrated!!

My doc never said this. Slow and steady is probably better, but it's not my style either and it's not how i've done this. I've lost 58 lbs in 4 1/2 months out from surgery...

Lose weight for 18 months??? That is a wired statement as if we beyond our actions we are bonded to lose for a certian time period then poof magically stop losing. Very odd statement.

We can gain and lose forever after sleeve dictated by our own actions.

Perfect case and point for you to go back to him for specific explanation and clarification. If you don't understand or like what your surgeon advises question him/her, don't let them blow you off or dismiss you. I would wait for a response from your Nutritonist and follow up with a call to your physician for greater clarity.

Well, damn. Someone should have told me that because I lost 5 pounds in month 19. *laughing*

I get what he's saying, but really... no amount of anything is going to stop the skin or hair issues from what I've seen hanging around the various sleeve places online and in real life. I think do what you feel is right for you and your body. My plan is to get where I'm comfortable and then 100-200 calories per week until I'm maintaining. But first I want to get to goal, whatever that ends up being.

Obviously, he's your doctor and you should listen to him... that's my official answer. Unofficially, I'd do what I want. LOL. But I've kind of done that all along anyway.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
