Interested in people over 55 who have had the Gastric Sleeve.

Recommended Posts

I am 55 and scheduled for surgery Feb 21. They submitted for insurance approval yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get approved quickly since I am already scheduled. We don't have much time for appeals. I am having my surgery in Owasso, Ok. Good luck to everyone!

I am 64 and was sleeved on 12/26. I have lost a total of 48 lb, 31 lb since the surgery. I am losing slowly but am hoping to be released for the gym when I see my surgeon this week. I hope to do the indoor walking track and swimnastics. I am feeling great and had no complications, nausea, etc. after the surgery.

So glad to hear that there are so many of you that are over 50 that have been sleeved and doing well. I wish you all great success & I hope I can get some great tips from you all. In fact am thinking of starting my liquid diet today myself. I am waiting for insurance approval....seems like forever ! Lol!!! Not sure if my doctor will put me on one but see all the great weight loss for some of you on it thought I might as well try. I feel in limbo and that I should be doing something. What are you allowed on a liquid diet? Seems pretty self explanatory but can you have dairy? broth? juice? Can someone clarify for me please

I am on my 5th day of preop diet. Mine consiste of 4-5 of the Carnation Breakfast Essentials sugar free. You can have crystal lite, or anything that would be sugar free and caffeine free (like those things you add to water). I can have 1 cup of sugar free Jello and 1-2 sugar free popsicles. I just wish I could have broth. But, my dietician says there is too much sodium in them before surgery  I would feel so much better if I could. Good luck! I am also waiting on insurance approval. It was submitted to insurance Friday. The insurance coordinator emailed me this morning saying that it had been received and that it had been sent to the nurse for review. She will call back again tomorrow. Hope I'm not doing this preop diet only to get denied.

This preop diet is brutal! I've been so hungry and cheated yesterday! I feel so bad, but I was starving! Had a small bowl of Cereal. I can eat once a day and have all raw veggies I want. How many radishes or romaine lettuce can one eat?

Hello,

I am scheduled for 3/13/13. I am scared (especially with all the 13's involved) but was more concerned about how much, if any, pain anyone may have experienced right after the procedure.

Thanks

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
