Completely unrelated to surgery. If you get grey hair after surgery, you were already going to get grey hair. Lol

No. Gray hair is caused by children and husbands. :D

When I get my hair colored it usually makes it look thicker. I did mine the week before and will again in another 5 weeks or so. Every little bit will help me since my hair is on the thin side anyway. :(

As a hairstylist I was curious myself. I know I always encourage clients with thinning hair to get highlights or color because it swells the hair shaft and gives it a fuller texture but I also recommend adding Biotin or more b Vitamins to your daily Vitamin routine as well. Good luck everyone!!

Looking forward to my vsg :)

I colored my hair throughout the thinning and regrowth stage. I am almost completely gray on top so I have to color or commit to gray hair.< /p>

At about 20 months out, it is finally thick down to the ends again. It started thinning around month 4 or 5 and started coming back in by month 8 or 9. My hair grows slow and I kept the length, so it took a while to get thick all the way to the ends again. I have been very vigilant about taking my Vitamins, drinking fluids, and eating right.

I go to a salon and told my hairdresser about the surgery, but he didn't change the products. He did a few styling tricks, cutting tricks, and coloring tricks to make it look thicker. I did try to slow down the schedule, with touch ups every 2 months instead of my normal 6 weeks.

Yes keeping a good trim will keep up with your growth cycle....I notice that hair looks so much thicker from going to a shorter style because of the stages of growth, so long hair tends to look stringer I'd your hair is thinning.

I have been doing hair for 13 years. Ladies YES you can color and highlight it Will help look fuller. Also we all men and women need to use a Shampoo and conditioner call Nixon. It clears the scalp from tons of the impurities and anesthesia from ur follicles and then after the shower add a the treatment to ur scalp. Other important things is get tons of protien and use Vitamins that promote Hair growth. If you need any advice please in box, I love what I do and would love to give help with something I know tons about.

Why does your hair thin when you have the surgery? I'm just finding this out. I have my surgery may 1st however this week I'm suppose to get a keratin treatment to straighten it. Is that a bad idea? I do every couple months.

Kristy26,

I believe the thought is it's a combination of after effect from the anesthesia and a result of severely restricted calories. For those who are not careful, it can also be a lack of Vitamins and Protein. I know for me it was not a lack of Protein or Vitamins. Talk to your hairdresser. Basically, if it stresses your hair and you can avoid it, I recommend putting it off till your hair recovers unless it's more important than thinner hair. For me, I preferred thinner hair over gray hair.

Anytime your body changes out of the norm you will notice changes in you hair or skin.... It's not the actual surgery but I believe your body has to adjust to the changes. B Vitamins and Biotin will help and keratin will not be a problem. If you haven't had a problem with it before I wouldn't worry. It's not a chemical straightener so there is no breaking down of your hair. Keratin adds to it. Good luck!

Hair loss after bariatric surgery has everything to do with the anesthesia and the surgery. We have depleted our bodies of so much at the beginning and put so many foreign chemicals that after surgery you hair and nails pay the price. The keratin straighter s are not to harmful so try it out, also Keratin is more restorative than damaging but remember in coloring or straighten we are opening and closing the cuticle of your hair so that always no matter what causes a little damage. I am a stylist and 4 weeks out of surgery and today was the first time I noticed a large amount of hair and I can tell you it is because I have been so sick and not getting my Protein The main important things are protein, a Shampoo like Nixon to get the scalp and follicles cleansed, Water and Vitamins. Everything is trail and error if you notice your hair isn't handling it the same I would stop.

^ it also has a TON to do with the high levels of estrogen. Too much estrogen=nt enough hair. Your fat cells store estrogen and when they're being shed, especially rapidly, your hair will thin. Luckily as far as my hair is concerned, I'm a slow loser and haven't lost any.

I also switched to a low/no estrogen birth control pill. There are plenty out there. They're only 98% effective while pills with estrogen are 99% but you should use a barrier method the first 18-24 months anyway to avoid pregnancy while you're in the super fertile zone so 1% shouldn't matter. :)

I recommend L-Lysine supplement and Ovation cell therapy for hair support. I had REALLY thin hair because I was post-cancer, multiple surgeries, major stress, early onset menopause because of radiation and that was all before I got sleeved. I love the tinted dry Shampoo by Batiste to boost volume and cover bald spots and I try to wash my hair only 2-3 times a week so there's less breakage. My hair has grown out a lot but as I was losing weight I just kept it super short.

Losing 1.2kg/2.6lbs in a week seems to be a bit disappointing when in reality it is quite reasonable at about 5kg/11lbs per month. I think that I cant quite remember the last 30kg/65lbs. Oh the mind games we play!

Yup, I did it! I RAN my SECOND continuous 5K ever this morning! There is an option to do a 10K Sunday morning and I'm going to give it a try. It's basically the 5K twice. Even though this is a girls' trip, I kinda wish Mr. was here so he could witness my awesomeness.
@FluffyChix, no it wasn't on the beach nor was I wearing a bikini, but I think I should get bonus points anyway, just for doing it a second time 😎

just got back from my 2 year check up and wanted to post.  The kcal drop has me worried and thinking i need to up the weights and trim back the cardio. Never saw myself as a person who cared for bulky muscles but the increased calorie burn from more muscle mass certainly wont hurt.
New goal for the next year i guess.
