Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!

Recommended Posts

I have a question & it's not to judge you, just completely curious...

You said you're a size 12...how did you get approved for such an extreme procedure?

Also, I could hardly swallow Water or Protein Shakes for at least.5 weeks & I was totally miserable. Count your blessings & take care of yourself!

I think the best site to post this question will be alcohol anonymous it seems like an addiction I guess the only reason you got this surgery was for cosmetic reasons.. Anyone that I know of would be more concerned about healing instead of alcohol this is a major surgery and we take it very seriously. Also to me numbers don't make sense why would you get operated if you are size 12 ???? 201 lbs ???? A lot of things r not adding up and that's y everyone seems to be frustrated.

Omg.... I am so tired of seeing this thread. Let her drink. Haven't you ever heard of natural selection! 0_o

Hahahaha! The Darwin awards!

Did nobody else notice the OP said she followed her dr's directions of 3 weeks, but the title of the thread is something to the effect of alcohol TWO weeks out.

I say do whatever you want, but I really don't see the point of posting this after the fact. Were you planning on having more drinks and the warning replies made you stop? Because that would be pretty legit I guess. If I could give you advice that you would accept graciously I'd tell you to probably call your surgeon BEFORE you do something you're unsure of.

Good luck with the rest of your journey :)

I was a US 12 when I was sleeved. I also had a BMI of near 40 .... I carry weight extremely well - mainly in legs. Now at 220lbs people refer to me as "skinny". I'm 5"9 BTW.

I smell a muddy troll... No doctor in their right mind would sleeve someone with only 20# to lose' date=' and at two weeks out your sleeve can barely tolerate Water and Protein Shakes, let alone alcohol. If this is what you do for entertainment is start drama on a site intended to support those who need it I feel sorry for you.[/quote']

I've lost 20 pounds ! Started at 201 and starting 4 days after surgery was able to get down all my fluids plus more

This is not a criticism but... Just out of curiosity would you find out the answer before or after you had your drink?

Amanda Rae

Well that's not very nice :S so much for accepting advice graciously. So people can't call you names, but you can insult me? You can dish it out but you really can't take it can you?

And my point is you said you followed your dr's advice but you didnt... Just pointing out an incorrect statement. You might make people think your doc said 2 weeks if they don't read all the replies.

Why is every one reacting to this chaos? Clearly this post is out of control! Stop responding. In the long run, it doesn't matter what is said and done. If someone wants to risk damaging her body, then that's on her...... We are all human. PEACE to all! :) NAMASTE!

Obviously I'm on the right track if I'm down 20 pounds in 2 weeks ! The most important thing is not to stretch out the sleeve by eating certain foods that your stomach cannot tolerate . Which I have stuck to this diet . And work out 4 days a week . Just thought someone could give me some expert advice on how alcohol affects the sleeve in a negative way . If the alcohol was burning my insides or making sick in any way that would be a whole different story .

I wasnt advised to do exercise till 6wks after surgery. You are moving too quick! Slow down mommie! :)

I had a VERY SMALL frozen Margarita @ 2 Wks out. I'm still here!!! Had vsg Jan. 2nd and have lost 23 lbs. Doing well. I can tell ya one thing : I got a buzz a whole lot quicker! I wouldn't make a habit of it, though. I get to go on regular solids in another week and I plan on having another then. So there.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
