Karen sweetie, I can see that you are new to this forum. This thread you are posting on is from 2006--people sometimes come and go on Lap Band Talk.

It would be best if you start your own "New Thread" about your question. (For which I'm sorry to say, I don't have a clue).

Good luck to you--you ARE in the right Internet site to get all your answers....

:smile2:

Now you have to remember, I'm an older woman (and I've been through IBS before too) so I have to watch what I eat (i.e. products with lactose!). :crying:

But the truth is that I've experienced no more cramps or bloating or painful gas since surgery than is normal, depending again on what foods I intake.--the one thing that has definitely lessened is my acid reflux. No more taking Zantac and Nexium daily.

If you read in this forum, on the Internet, and through talking with your doctor, you'll find your diet with the Lap Band may change --and through that your body will react differently--perhaps better, because the foods you will choose will be healthier. Some fruits may be out (I can no longer do bananas, oranges, grapefruit, or grapes) but some of them may be part of the cause of your IBS too.

Read, read, read all you can to make a well-informed decision. Good luck to you! :cursing:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
