struggling to get protein

Recommended Posts

I just finished my week of Clear liquids and am currently on my full liquids week. For the Clear Liquids phase, I was only getting 40g of Protein a day because i despised the Isopure. Now, i am on Protein shakes but i am hating these already and its only day 2! I am getting 50-60g of Protein a day now. my doctor said to get 60-80g a day. did anyone else have this problem? i feel like there's nothing i can do - if i can barely manage to get down the Protein drinks, how else am i supposed to get it?!

wouldn't it be awesome if protein came in a pill - life would be so much simpler!

Holy cow!!! I WISH I was getting that much in!! I am over a month out and some days I am lucky if I get in 20g of Protein and 300 calories.

What are you drinking to get so much in?

Hi! I feel your pain. I'm 3 weeks out an still struggle with it. I can tell you what is great is Unjury chicken broth Protein Powder. (www.unjury.com). It tastes just like chicken broth and so easy to drink. Each scoop has 21g of protein.. it's pretty easy to get three 8oz. of these in each day. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed. Good luck to you!

i have one sample pack of the Unjury chicken broth. i have been leery of trying it because i've disliked the other unjury products, but i'll have to give it a whirl.

You won't be disappointed! Just makes sure you don't heat your Water past 140 degrees...it will curdle the Protein. A safe bet is to fill an 8oz glass full of Water and place in the microwave for 1 min 10 secs... works like a charm :)

I'd be interest to see what you think!

I put unflavored Protein (it's a lie, but tolerable) in SF/FF Jello and pudding. It was the only way I could have survived.

Hang in there, it gets SOOOO much easier when you hit purée/mushie stage.

You can do it!

i should also mention that before the surgery, i was not a huge Protein eater. i would average 25g on a good day. so this is a huge improvement!

I am also protein-challenged. I don't like Protein shakes either. Fortunately I am past that stage of full liquids, but I do force a couple down twice a week for Breakfast on the days I have class for convenience sake. I have the unjury chicken powder and I wasn't a big fan, but I'm not sure I gave it a chance. What I do to get extra Protein in is add half a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder to my 32-ounce Water bottle which is filled with either diet cranberry juice or crystal light- can't taste it and thats an additional 20 grams of protein per day AND I get my 64 oz of fluids in. I'm really into muti-tasking! LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
