I am 4 days post op and I have tried several different Protein Shakes and flavor all of them a very disgusting. Everyone I drink makes me sick and throw them up which hurts really bad. A friend of mines suggested that I cook some red Beans and eat the juice off the red beans for Protein. I have no issue with the juice from the red beans they gone done very easily and have it about 4 to 5 times a day. Is this a great idea. Because I can not do the protein shakes I even tried a product called Idea protein which provides Soups, mash potatoes with protein and much more. But i bean doing the red beans juice for the past two days is this a good source to get my protein??? Please Help!!!!!!

Isopure or nectar. chicken stock Unjury. Is it absolute intolerance or just doesn't taste good? Unjury cheese sauce saved my life, 21 G Protein per serving. Tastes like tuna helper sauce so super fake.

Many, MANY folks have found Premier Protein shakes work for them. I, like you, tried several different ready-to-drink shakes and powders. Premier is by far the best one for me. You can get them at costco or Sam's Club.

Do a search on this site for Premier Protein. There are many threads discussing it.

Call your nutritionist. She can tell you if you are actually getting any Protein from the bean juice. She can also give you other ideas. Maybe you will be allowed to make a Greek yogurt smoothie diluted with fat free milk. Personally the nectar chocolate truffle saved me. I mixed with only 6 oz milk and one scoop. That is 30g protein. I had two per day and got my liquids in. That is all I could tolerate.

I didn't start any Protein Shakes until Week 2. Maybe your stomach is just still too raw from surgery to handle it. All I drank was bullion, Water, Fuze, etc for Week 1. Ate sugar free popsicles. But, I agree with everyone else, call your nutritionist or surgeon to find suggestions.

I am 10 weeks out- and I will tell you- I have thrown up every Protein Shake out there. I was told by my nut to do milk mixed with powdered milk for double Protein and greek yogurt diluted for protein. I am now getting 90% of my daily goal of protein through food- and my doctor and I are happy. I even had a post-op class where they had some people who owned a nutrition store in there and they jokingly "guaranteed" they could find me a protein shake i could handle... Yeah- I threw it up right in front of them. Awesome. GOOD LUCK!!!

I do BiPro-- It is unflavored Protein Powder-- I mix milk, chocolate carnation, and the powder! I dislike the shakes as well. Not my thing at all! Good luck!

At 4 days out I don't get why docs are having patients on Protein shakes. Most people I follow are on Clear Liquids - juice, Water, Isopure -- and maybe some chicken Soup from unjury.

I would personally table the shakes till next week. So much stress and you won't get in all your Protein every day from the gate. It's something you work up to.

I don't know how much protein the juice from red Beans have...would be better if you watered down the Beans and then liquified them. The protein is in the bean. The runoff would be starch, I would think?

Focus on liquids, get some chicken Soup flavored Unjury or chicken broth, or the broth from chicken noodle soup. Much better for your new tummy. Be gentle, you're still heaing.

I was on Protein Drinks as soon as I came home from the hospital too. At week on everyone of them made me sick. I mean SICK!

I called my dr. They said to lay off of them and try non dairy shakes. I gave my self a week then went to Unjury mixed with Water and was fine.

Now I mix it with skim milk and warm them. If I drink cold Protein I get sick again. However if its warmer than room temp. I can drink it!

My body accepts warm much better than cold!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
