Just an interesting observation...I am friends with a group of about a dozen ladies, most of which are plus size. Only one or two is supportive of me considering the WLS, but it's interesting how everyone has gone on a diet since I've started my pre op diet. Afraid to be left behind or inspired? I'm not sure.

Gypsy, either way just make sure you are the kind of friend that you would like them to be. Encourage them and share knowledge, it would be awesome to drop some pounds with a friend, even if not by the same avenue. I have a friend who is eating healthy and has lost quite a bit of weight and was probably one of the least supportive people when she found out I was having surgery. She felt like I could do it on diet and exercise like her or like I have before. I was very upfront with her about my situation and why I chose surgery and that it was not something I chose on a whim. I have tried to be supportive of her weight loss and can only hope that she will be as supportive of mine! Good luck! :)

Hi Gypsy,

Could be a lil bit of both.... i have chosen not to tell anyone. My husband/daughter/boss are the only ppl that know. I sent a pic to my sisters last nite and immediately one of my sisters said youre loosing weight arent you... My response was yes im trying. Truly some ppl are so judgmental and jealous the dont know how to handle change but they also dont know the private pain that the other person suffers being overweight... Best of luck with surgery. I am down 20lbs. I had my surgery Dec 28th

People Unless they have been through the up and down weight loss struggles that we have just don't understand hopefully your true friends know your character well enough to know that you have done your homework and exhausted other efforts before taking this road. It not like other elective surgeries such as breast enhancements, butt lifts, or tummy tucks for most of us we just want to be healthier and live longer for our loved ones and could not do it alone, sometimes its genetics, thyroid problems, metabolism or other thing besides sheer will power that keeps us from losing on our own. Oh well I,m getting off the soapbox now,

Thanks for the replies! I've lost 25 lbs so far on my 3 mo. preop (yay!), but I'm getting a lot of remarks about why I would get the surgery. I'm standing firm on going forward because no matter how easily it seems I lose the weight, I have never been able to keep it off. I've only lived here 6 years, and have always lead the charge on overindulgence. SO, now they look at me like my head is spinning around as I drink Water and decline garlic cheese fries. Go figure! I don't want to be all in anyone's face about it, but felt the need to get opinions on surgery (uninformed, though they are) from my gals. I'm smiling and cheering them on, cause hey, that will make hanging out if we're all "dieting" together, that much easier.

On the other hand, my sister-in-law has talked about WLS FOR YEARS (she does not have insurance coverage and tries get rich quick schemes to raise the $). When I spoke to her about it, she cried and begged me not to do it without her. Ugh!

I'm in the zone and forging ahead. See the nut next week for final (preop diet) visit, then I guess back to doc we start discussing surgery dates.

Lol I would say they r afraid to be left behind. No one wants to be the “lone fat friend“. If they were all inspired by u then they would all be supportive of u. Dont worry tho, if someone is hating on u then that means ur doing something right! Keep up the good work:)

Here are my thoughts on this, why not focus on yourself and ignore what the others are doing. Far too many times do I see where "we" focus on others instead of ourselves. If they are trying to lose weight, good for them. I always said I could care less what others are doing as long as it isn't affecting me. Life is a whole lot easier when you take to the time to embrace YOU instead of others. Good luck with your weight loss! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
