For the sleevers , is it okay to have a stuff potato ?

You really need protein' date=' not all the carbs that come in a potato. Just my opinion. You can.....but I wouldn't.[/quote']

Oh okay great , I had a potato and a piece of salmon. So I guess I won't have it again but I'm unsure what to eat , maybe veggies and fish ?

I think it's OK to have potato every once in awhile- like as a side dish- I mean, if you eat your Protein first, you won't have much room but for a couple small bites of your potato, probably, which should not derail you.

Eat the salmon first, finish up with the potato... Protein first, then carbs. I'm guessing you're not having a baked potato at every meal, so I think if that's what you're wanting, have it once in a while and enjoy it. Of course, I'm not even on solid foods yet, so there are way more people with more experience. However, the protein first, then carbs, makes sense to me.

If you don't have a NUT or an eating plan, then a good general rule of thumb is....it's okay to have those kinds of foods so long as you're getting in at least 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water. If you still have room after all that, then yes a starch won't kill you. But if you're not getting that water and protein then seriously consider not using valuable sleeve space on starches. That's my approach anyway. The protein and water are just too important.

For lunch today I had a 3 oz piece of meat loaf made with ground turkey, 1/4 cup of green Beans and 1/4 cup of scalloped potatoes. I ate the meat loaf and green Beans and only 2-3 bites of potatoes. Focus on the Protein and non-starchy green beans, let the potatoes/rice/bread/etc be something you have a few bites of and be done. If you're not a person who can do that, then stay away from them.

Just my $.02

How far out are you? I am 2 yrs 7 months, and I'll eat half of a small baked potato or less.....occasionally. A little butter, use Greek yogurt for sour cream and sprinkle a little 2% cheddar in. Eat your Protein, the potato is a side and a treat! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
