Portion size 6 months out...1/2 unwich?

Recommended Posts

I just demolished 1/2 of a Beach Club unwich from Jimmy Johns (no mayo, no onion)) and am a little concerned I was able to eat that much. Before you jump on the no fast food band wagon, I left my lunch on my counter at home, and don't have many options close to me. Should I be concerned I about this portion size 6 months out?

Well, the link you provided doesn't really give information on what is in the sandwich, just the nutritional information, so without knowing that it's hard to say.

At six months out I could eat a whole sandwich WITH bread sometimes, depending what was on it. Dense meats piled high, no. But tuna salad or pimento cheese or Peanut Butter, yes.

You're probably fine. I don't think the Unwich has bread, and you say you ate only half of it.

I could eat a half an unwich at 6 months. It's about 4.5 oz of food.

I think that's fine. I'm able to eat about the same amount. And I feel the unwich was a good choice. I do occasionally eat out, it's a fact of life. Things happen.

You are completely fine and the unwich was a good choice. I've had them before as well; sometimes I can only have half and sometimes I can eat the whole thing and it seems to be pretty much normal. It was at least 6 months post op before I could do that though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
