Sleeved december 26, 2012

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for someone who can help go through this with me. I was sleeved Wednesday. I did experience minor complications, I am 20 and I'm the youngest patient m doctor has did. I failed my barium swallowing test the morning after surgery because my throat was so swollen. I also had horrible gas pains that medication wouldn't touch. It is now Friday and I finally got to come home. Doing much better just very sore, swallowing is alot better also!

Hey! I had my surgery the Thursday before you, and I'm eighteen! So I was the youngest my doctor has too! This just means we have a more speedy recovery!

Your throat was swollen because of the tubes irritating it? Did you get another leak test later?

Congratulations to both of you youngun's from a 64 year old. B)

No I didn't have to get another one done because i slowly tested myself. I can feel it going down and my throat makes a weird noise sometimes when I swallow. He said it could be from the tubes, or just being young. He said each person is different.

I am sooo sore today :(

Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon.

I have never heard of being young as a reason for a sore throat or noise when you swallow. But I am no doctor. Yes, each person is different.

The noise is gone now and swallowing is much better. I just swelled up more than most. But I'm back on track now and everything is

Normal.

Take your pain meds, get your walking in and concentrate on healing! Also an anti acid and Tums chewables are great for gas and swelling.

Chelsey and Teribearyy,

I'm a 64 year old guy who went through cancer treatment which devastated my body. I am 11 months out and working out like I'm 30. I lost over 100 pounds and healed up pretty quickly from the operation. If I can do well, so can you.

Everyone is different but I'd put money on the odds that those young bodies are going to do quite well. Elasticity and quick recovery are in your corner.

Use your new life well, young ladies. Conquer your bodies with your minds. We are here to help you if you need it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
