Lapband to sleeve weight loss

Recommended Posts

I understand. I am hungry, too. All the time. I'm even hungry after eating. The sensation NEVER goes away. I just keep on holding onto hope that it'll get better with time.

And for reference, I had about 6 months with the band where I was NEVER hungry, so I know what it feels like to be not hungry. I sure would like that sensation back!

I don't understand your ticker says you've lost 46lbs in 7wks following sleeve but your post says you've only lost 10lbs - which one is accurate?

how do you know you have dialation?

Upper GI performed 1 month after surgery.

Sounds like you need an acid reducer. Try it and see if it helps, I did and it made a world of difference, the "hunger" went away.

I've tried 3 different acid reducers so far. Not a bit of difference, unfortunately.

I think you've got me confused with someone else. I never said I only lost 10 lbs. I've lost 46 lbs in 1 week pre-op and 7 weeks post-op.

yes - your right. It was someone who was commenting on your post. I do understand the feelings of hunger, as shared in my previous post. This is a major concern for me. I was always hungry with the band, but just couldn't eat anything but slider foods which stalled my weight loss. I'm so scared of this happening with the sleeve, so I've really been following posts from folks like you who are posting about being hungry. Prayerfully I think I've lost close to 10lbs if not more at only 7 days post op, and I would love it even more if after 7 weeks I lost 46lbs, didnt have that much success the 4yrs banded, but the hunger is a concern because that makes me seek unforgiving food choices; please continue posting on your progress. Thank you.

Popsicle, I hear ya! This feels an awful lot like a diet right now. The sleeve hasn't done anything for my hunger yet; what it does do is only allow me to eat small portions at meal time. So, I am losing, and I am happy with that. But I would say it's 75% me and 25% the sleeve. However, as negative and frustrated as I sound, I am still hopeful it'll get better. And I am happy to have even 25% help with losing weight, as I've proven I certainly can't do it on my own! :)

I have a follow-up appt with my surgeon on Monday. Hopefully, he'll have some insight.

well keep me posted. The gas has gotten better over the last couple of days. Still struggling to find things to eat while still on full liquid without the hunger feeling coming on. I get bored, with the samething every day. Something definitely I have to get use to. I've been told it gets better.

Mandy how do you find your hunger with sleeve vs band? I wonder sometimes if I am expecting miracle if I convert. I am at 2 cc and after a few bites I feel that chunk stuck in my throat and still hungry so I eat. At 2 cc if I have a small defill I will eat more

well I'm still swollen so I'm thinking the more it goes down the more I can eat but its a total different feeling then the band that feeling of actually being full and not that miserable like somethings stuck feeling cause has I'm talking to you I'm eating cream of wheat and I'm only able to eat 2 bites and I just put 1/4 a cup in it and usually takes about 30 min to a hour to eat which it should take that long anyways

I had the band done and it was in for 4 years. I did lose 60 pounds but in the end there was dialation and a hernia. I converted all at once which I am glad because I did not want o go through a bunch of surgeries and time off from work. I am feeling sad and frustrated now though. I feel like I can't eat anything. I was sleeved on Nov 30 and it is very difficult to feel satisfied before I am stuffed with that really full feeling. I feel that my stomach is full and I cannot eat anything else, but I don't know if it is in my head or what is going on. I feel like I have made a huge mistake because I can not even eat a full small meal. I have to get the Protein in of which you can only eat very little, and never get to the salade or vegtables. Also, I feel like I am behind getting Fluid in all the time. You can't drink much at a time and then I have to stop and wait. Will it get better in time or is this something I am going to have to live with? Help let me know if you have been through this.

I know eactly how you feel I kinda wish i would have waited to see if that would have made a difference. I had herniated esophagues and so when I lay down I start coughing pretty bad. I just had to try stuff and see how it goes. I cant do a small meal either only bits and pieces of things here and there. salad, Water, and fruit are my friends. I am turned off by food also so sometimes I will go without eating so I dont feel bad. I dont know if it will get better but I hope so cause sometime I really am hungry and its not head hungry I need to eat something...Hopefully it will get better all I can do is pray about. Best of luck!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
