Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?

Recommended Posts

Had my six-month post op visit a little early with surgeon, NUT and mental health person. I weighed 243 on August 9, 2012. I was 222 on 12/17 and today I weighed 158. BMI went from 43 to 28. Some people may have posted bigger losses and some may have posted less weight loss since the 17th of December, but I am pretty happy with my progress so far. I do eat carbs. The surgeon and NUT don't really care that I eat (healthy) carbs, but they did want me to eat more protein....I think I have been hovering between 45g and 50g...instead of 60-70g. I guess that is it.

sounds like you are doing good!

I started heavier and have lost around the same as you since surgery so I am still pretty heavy. Better for me but I have a lot still to go. Weight loss is pretty slow, I do seem to lose inches because my clothes can go smaller over time. I seem to lose a little better when I have some bites of carb, it is a balancing act.

Hi how is everyone doing??? I am down 87 lbs now but I've been in a slump for a few months. I haven't lost any weight at all for the last two months which is very frustrating and depressing. My hair is also falling out like crazy which just adds to the depression. Everyone says I look great but I don't feel great. I feel like I feel short of my goals. My goal was to loose at least another 20lbs by now...... any help or motivation would be much appriciated thanks.

Rockstarswife - I'm right there with you. I have been in a stall all summer! My goal is to lose 100# but I am only half way. Very frustrating when I don't eat very much. I must say though, I had to stop my workouts at the gym because I hurt my knees in a fall and tore my right hamstring. The knees probably need medical intervention but the hamstring is much better. Today I start the T25 exercise program. I hope that helps to jump start my weight loss.

Hi, RSW; my goal weight was 160 and about 3 months ago I was stalled at 170. I would gain a few lbs then lose 'em. Then I started the Insanity workout and just like that, my weight started to fall off again. Now I have passed my goal weight (I'm at 157) and have set a new goal of 140 lbs. non processed Protein, vegetables and fresh fruit is what I regularly eat. I do slip now and again but I get right back on track. That's the important thing, never give up trying. Good luck and hope this helps.

There's a thing called "muscle confusion." Sometimes if we stay with a routine, our muscles kind of don't keep doing their thing (burning calories at rest) optimally. If we challenge ourselves in new ways, our muscles get a wake up call and start burning more calories. That being said, I think I have trouble wanting to deviate from routines. I am a creature of habit.

Hi everyone- just an update on me. Seems like this thread is still pretty active. Current stats: HW: 302, SW: 272, CW: 172. I have managed to drop 100 since surgery and am 12 lbs from initial goal of 160. I am off all medication and feel pretty good. I have had my share of stalls, but I try to be patient, and usually the scale won't budge for 2-3 weeks then I drop a bunch- very stair-step like. I use myfitnesspal religiously- I really think it has helped me keep on track. Add me if you like on there- tons of VSG folks there who are very supportive and motivating. :))))) -Kendra

Hi Rockstarwife

You should be excited you have lost 87 pounds .. That is so awesome .. I am so proud of you keep up the good work ..

My weight loss has slowed down a bit also .. I have gained 2 pounds .. I am not liking that but I thought I would go back to step one and do the liquid diet and maybe it will jump start my weight loss !

Hi everyone just wanted to see how everyone is doing? I have lost about 80lbs now just under 200 finally. Want to lost 40 to fifty more but seem to have hit a stall for over a month. I find myself really hungry lately and wanting to eat any and everything but curb that as much as possible. I was wondering though if anyone had any tips and if anyone could tell me how many calories should be eaten at this stage. Thank you:)

Hi Everyone, good to see this thread still going, too. I just hit 125 lost, and still have about 20-35 to go. Not sure where I want to end up yet, but as long as I hit 160, I'll be satisfied. I think I look thinner at 180 now than I did when I was 25. IDK. I too have days where I am hungrier than others, and I can eat more than the 1/2 cup they want me to, though I try not to. I do keep my calories around 800-900, and though my weight loss slowed, it's still coming off. I plan to stay with this plan until I'm at goal, whatever that might be.

Hello all. I am trucking right along, although my weight loss has slowed- I am gradually changing some things to prepare to ease into maintenance- weighing every day and slowly increasing calories. I am 9 lbs from goal w/ 144 total loss (114 since surgery). I eat between 1200-1400 calories per day and still losing about 1/2 lb per week, with pauses every few weeks. I am doing C25k 3x per week and Zumba 3x per week. I eat for the most part what I want but limit carbs and since I can eat more volume-wise, I am "bulking up" my meals with veggies. All is well- hope everyone else is OK!

Hi everyone, I am having some trouble. I turned 42 last week & completely fell off the wagon. For the last year I have been super strict not allowing myself bread, Pasta, rice or any type of dessert. Well my birthday came around and I thought well I've lost 95 lbs I can treat myself to a biscuit with my dinner & have a small slice of cheese cake afterward too. That all sounds pretty bad but it gets worse.....I have been eating something everyday since then that I shouldn't be...I just can't stop....I feel like complete **** about it and my body feels like **** too...I haven't gained any weight but I also am not loosing any either I still have another 40 lbs to go to reach my goal....I am so embarrassed to be slipping back I to these old behaviors after doing so well for the last year!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
