regrets even if its too late

Recommended Posts

its weeks like this i regret ever getting this done. i,m almost 6 weeks post op, everything was going great, then out of the blue i started having pains when ever i ate or drank anything. it was like a bad nawwing feeling into my stomach then would radiate into my lower left back side. i just got home from the hospital yesterday, was in there for 4 days. they did a CTscan and nothing really showed but a small swollen spot near my spleen and some extra fat there. they also did a leak test but it was good. i,m still in so much pain, my arms are so bruised from all the times they had to redo my iv. sometimes you wish they had found something so that they don,t think your crazy. all i heard was every dr saying ....why mexico......i said why not, they don,t seem to really want to do it here in canada and if you do find it, its so damn expensive. thank you for letting me vent. MERYCHRISTMAS to you all.........................saddie

I've been where you are....regretted getting the sleeve. I was 3 weeks out when a small leak and absess was found. Spent 17 days on TPN in the hospital...no food or drinks by mouth. Tons of meds, 4 leak tests total, CT scan, depression, dehydration, vomitting, passing out, pain...it was horrible. But 3 months out, 51 pounds down and finally in Onederland, I'd do it all over again. You'll get there....I promise. Just keep your eye on the prize.

It takes a good 6 weeks for your stomach to fully heal. You theoretically could get a leak during this time.

Late leaks happen, which really means the leak was likely there from the start but wasn't detected until late. There was nothing I could do to prevent it from happening. I didn't break any rules. Since my leak was small, there were early signs but they were pretty minor so docs didn't really think that's what it was....until it was. Advice...just take it easy, don't break the rules, allow your stomach to heal and if you feel something is wrong, see your doctor. If something is seriously wrong, you'll know. The day I ended up in the hospital, I knew! I just knew.

What doctor did you use and do u have insurance that covers all those med bills??

Not sure if you're asking me? I was self pay for surgery and had the wonderful Dr. Castaneda do my sleeve in Puerto Vallarta, MX. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada so flying to PV for leak care just wasn't an option. If I hadn't been so sick and could have made the trip, I would have received way better care from Dr. Castaneda than I did from the doctors here. They did as little for me as possible...unfortunately. Dr. Castaneda checked in on me almost daily for a month and tried to make suggestions to the doctors here but they wouldn't hear of it. As for medical bills for my hospital stay, its all covered through Canadian health care and insurance through my wifes work.

I've been exactly where you are, regretted my surgery and was mad at myself for going through with it because 5 months post-op I was in excruciating pain everytime I ate or drank. But, I got an endoscopy 2 weeks ago and they dilated my esophagus, poof pain is gone. Now I can eat without pain and I don't cringe every time it's time to eat. Request an endoscopy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
