I don't think many people are going to get into this, just read the post 'alcohol' to see how touchy some people are about a little drink!!

I can only tell you my personal experience and that is I have had alcohol since being sleeved and have had no problems whatsoever.

Maybe if its sips alone and not full glasses, have a spill not a glass, they say it will get you very drunk now. I don't drink at all but I can see a point in very much moderation of the moment at this point for you people, otherwise I couldn't say accept that I read of it and heard at groups.

I agree with the Brit, but I really think it's best to talk about it with your doctor first...which was your first impulse. My doctor is vehemently against ANY alcohol in the first year, but that's him. Maybe your doc will have a different opinion. At least if you discuss it, you will make an informed decision. The alcohol thread is just plain scary.

My surgeon says to wait 3months and you are there so I say go for it!! You will soon know if it sits well or not :)

I am approx. 7 months post-op and we will be going on vacation to an all-inclusive resort in mid-January for 2 weeks. There is a good chance I will have a couple of drinks while there, but probably only part of a drink at a time and not every day.

I wasn't really a drinker before surgery (social drinking, maybe 1 time per month for 1-2 drinks). So not having alcohol since surgery hasn't been any sort of an issue for me. I have had 1 glass of champagne (last week) and part of a cooler a couple of months ago. That's it. I did find the effects to be much faster and more potent than before surgery. I didn't really like the feeling that much, which probably contributed to my not really trying it very often.

I would not have had anything if I was not at least 5 months post-op. My surgeon did not advise when we could or could not start drinking again if we wanted to (ie. no 1 year rule), but there were alot of questions about alcohol consumption in my pre-op medical assessment papers. I think they find it a concern (and switching addictions from food to alcohol is a VERY real problem and must be closely monitored and avoided at all costs!).

It's not a problem for me and I can do 1 drink socially if I choose and stop.

My advice is to carefully assess your tolerance and pre-op drinking habits, take all of your physician's guidelines into account and then make a decision for your own circumstances. And be prepared to adjust your choice if the outcome is less than desireable!

I was sleeved in September and recently enjoyed my 1st glass of wine since. Where I used to be able to have glass after glass this time around I only had 1 glass. I was told the slightest amount would get me drunk but I was just fine. I did however drink very slow.

My surgeon told me 6 months and while I really wanted to have some before that time was up, he is the one who went through medical school, not me. Sure, I could cheat on my surgeon's advice but they why have the surgery in the first place to cheat? I wasn't about to risk it with a glass of wine that it would hurt my new tummy.

When they told me not to drink alcohol, I never even thought about the implication for addictions. I am like you. I drank, but not an awful lot, so when I was handed a paper to sign saying I would not drink for a year (yes, I had to sign a paper!), I figured I could manage okay, but as previously stated, I didn't drink even every week prior to surgery.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
