When is the right time to try?

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 months post-op and not planning on trying anytime soon because I'm not at my goal yet, but when did your doctors tell you it was ok or safe to try to get pregnant? I plan on discussing this with my doctor but I'd also like to hear what your doctors told you. After my 1 year surgiversary I'd like to consider it but I'm not sure if that's too soon or what. So ladies, what do you think?

My doc told me no earlier than 18 months but he also said that it would be best to wait until I was completely done losing weight and at goal for a while. ;)

It's 12-18 months recc. by the American Obstetrics Society and that's because you don't want to concieve during rapid weight loss phase as there could be nutrition issues, low birth weight, higher risk, etc.

You need to be at or close to your ideal weight and be stabilized and able to consume a reasonable amount of healthy calories a day-like 1600 or more...I know if I got preg. right now I would be dont for because I am taking in like, 500 a day a month out.

@christy38... There's not really much advice we can give u because u really only have 2 choices you can wait and get the surgery at a later time once you have had the baby your husband n u desire... Or you can get the surgery and wait the 2 years... If you get the surgery I would get pregnant before the 2 years because its not safe for fetus as you can really eat and the baby won't get all there nutrients in

I was told 12-18 months by my doc's office, so that puts me somewhere between this February and August--which kind of works out perfectly for us...good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
