This may seem a little different from the other posts, but I'm wondering if anybody, especially the ladies have had similar feelings... SO (Thank U God), I lost 70 pounds till now, and I got rid of a huge portion of my clothes, so I was rewarded with really cool designer outfits that my younger sister left behind when she went and got married, ( She's very sophisticated, God bless her, and always wears designers, and nothing more than twice)..... So I went home with a bundle of great clothes and they should have been hanging in my closet by now.. But what happened is...They're not out of the bundle yet!!!! I'm too freaked out to wear them, feels strange & uncomfortable... So now every time I go out, I just put on my favorite jeans & sweats which are practically hanging loose on me now.....It's like, I'm comfortable looking that way, and don't want the change???!!! Is it that I felt ugly for the longest time that it's too weird right now to feel & look good????? I'm actually having a pity party right now :(((

Maybe you could start with one top, wear it at home for a bit before you wear it out anywhere.

Yes, I think we get used to what we wear and then feel like fish out of Water with garments that are perhaps a bit nicer.

You deserve to look good. Why not put on some nice duds and go grocery shopping - just by yourself. Give it a trial run.

I have empathy with your feelings. I have some nice jewelry I don't wear. Nothing flashy. I just don't feel worthy.

How dumb is that?

I was just sleeved but I've been losing weight. So in September I bought a high fashion blazer, I've yet to wear it for the same reasons. I've put it on, loved it, been ready to leave the house and get cold feet. It's weird! Now that I'm 1 week post op, I keep thinking that I WILL have to wear it, before it doesn't fit anymore! That's causing me more stress. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who feels this way. Maybe we can make a pact to wear our items one day soon?! Take Care!

Good suggestions folks. You may be like me twho feels comfortable in a group but not in the spot light. You probably look soooo great that you don't want all the attention! Be proud of your accomplishment,

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Teddy Bear. I went to work with my old saggy clothes for weeks before my coworkers finally convinced me to buy new clothes. What I hadn't told them was that I DID buy new clothes, but I couldn't bring myself to use them.

I had a real psychological hurdle to overcome. The weight loss draws attention to me (positive attention), but I still don't like the attention. It's weird getting all that positive attention. I'm not used to it. It took a long time to become comfortable with it. I didn't know how to respond to positive attention.

EVERY time I would reach for my new clothes, I would be convinced they'd be too small. Even after putting them on, I still fidget and readjust nonstop, thinking that I have to move the fabric around to hide my fat rolls. The truth is that it's not necessary, but I still habitually do it. The old clothes give me a place to "hide". Big clothes can hide the fact that I've lost so much weight, and that takes the attention off me.

The new clothes fit just fine, but there's some psychological block that prevents me from feeling comfortable in them. I ask my girlfriend all the time, "Does this look too small on me?" and she's so sick of it that she just replies to me with "Stoppit!"

I still can't get rid of my baggy clothes. And just like you, I still feel more comfortable in them, even though I LOOK better in the smaller code.

You said "I felt ugly for the longest time that it's too weird right now to feel & look good". I hear you loud and clear. I was always the heaviest guy in the room. Always. Now I'm not, and even though that's a GOOD thing, it's very hard to get used to. CHANGE is hard for me. Seems that it's hard for you too.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
