Horrible Cough & Congestion - What is safe to take?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently came down with a bad cold (congested and very sore throat/bad cough). I am a little over 2 months out from having been sleeved. Just wondering if anyone knows what is safe to take as far as cold medicines go? I'm assuming maybe a children's cough Syrup, but not sure.

I had this exact thing happen only I was @3 weeks post opp!! My weight loss facility recommends Mucinex. No extended release. I found Mucinex severe congestion & cough, cough Syrup at the local wal greens & used it for a week. (I couldn't face having to crush & taste the pill form). Much better now. Hope this helps :)

That does help, it's just hard to know what is safe to take with such a small stomach, because I know ibprofen is out. There's a lot of crud going around my son's school right now, so I'm just praying it doesn't turn into the flu. That's my biggest fear, having to throw up and damaging my stomach. (knock on wood, I haven't had any sleeve related issues with that).

Thanks for the tip with the Mucinex, might be having to make a run to Walgreens or CVS!

I was told Tylenol cold and flu, DayQuil or NyQuil ... Just make sure it is liquid and only Tylenol for pain relief.

I just called my bariatric nurse line and verified with them what I can take. There's nothing I can't really take, but have to be careful with anti-inflammatory medicine and I might be extra sensitive to the sugar and alcohol in some of the cough medicines, but was told to dilute it. Thanks for the suggestions =)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
