Hi,

I am a 37yr old woman that has been wanting surgery for years but everytime I tell my parents they make me chicken out and I can't go through with it. How do I put my big girl pants on and make my own decision and stick with it??? My mom is the worst she is sooooooooo persuasive. I'm like 110lbs overweight. Anyone in my situation? Any tips or advice?? I'm really in a bind....................A little more about me is that I am married to a guy that supports my decision 100 percent and I have to kids 10 and 7.

I'm in the same situation. My mom is unsupportive and persuasive too. But my DH is supportive and that's means more to me than those who are unsupportive. So I told my mom that I was having a procedure , But I've since told 3 close friends who are all amazingly supportive. For me it my decision for my health. I'm standing up for my own life. Im going for it any way. For my family's future. Focus on you and your health.

Go for it if you really want to.

That's why I didn't tell anyone in my family. I didn't want them trying to talk me out of it.

I told mine. They weren't keen to say the least. But I said "This is the decision I've made, and you know better than to argue." They didn't :) they did have questions which I answered honestly.

If you feel it is the right decision for you, then go for it.

Just don't discuss it with your mother. Problem solved. You don't have to keep it a secret for ever. you can tell her from the recovery room.

I'm sure that your parents just worry about you. My mom had gastric bypass six years ago she had so many complications and now she is fine and does well and is still thin and kept all her weight off. However my dad does not want me to get the sleep. He is worried for my children that they will not have a mother and her father does not. Come around. So my point is they're just worried about you and that is how they deal with it. I know it is hard to understand but I guess I try to. Maybe just tell them I'm doing this I want your support but other than that I don't want any advice for me I love you I appreciate it thank you. Case closed

They are prolly just worried, but you also have to think about that it will ultimately lead to a fuller, longer life. I got the same reaction from my grandmother, but it is your decision in the end, and you will have the support of those here, and you will find so much support from so many people, it will make the choice easier.

Thanks all with the good sound advice...........I think I'm just gonna mind my business and not say anything and see how far I get!! LOL

It is my decision ultimately!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
