For folks 3+ months out or those with a stricture - Need some opinions fast

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'll be 3 months out on Dec. 18th and have been experiencing progressive and increasing difficulty eating anything of a solid consistency and getting enough Fluid down. Things of a smooth consistency (eg. oatmeal, yogurt, soup) go down much better, but nausea is experienced after every meal no matter what it is. I've been extremely careful not overfill my sleeve, but have also experienced throwing up after eating three times in the last 2 weeks so I'm really beginning to wonder if I haven't had some excessive scar tissue develop and narrowing of the opening to the stomach is what is causing this. I feel like at 3 months, I should be able to consume more than 2-3 bites of chicken, steak, ham, tuna, or fish without feeling sick and in pain with that lovely feeling like the food is stuck. Any thought ? Ideas ? Suggestions ? I am self-pay and my fees included 90 days of follow up care, so the clock on ticking down fast. I can't afford to shell out thousands more if, in fact, a dialation becomes necessary, nor can I continue to go without proper nutrition. Looking forward to your responses ! Thanks :)

Liz, go get it checked out. At 3 months you should NOT be having nausea. Never mind not being able to eat. Trust your gut!! Call your doc NOW.

I agree, you need to call your doc if you think something is wrong. You know your body and follow your gut. I am 3 months post op today and I do not get nauseau anymore. I do however have a problem with chicken. It has to be shredded and extremely tender. I also can't eat any type of lunch meat and I have to be real careful with beef. That is part of it. My doctor told me that it will take a year for your sleeve to form and level out. So, some of your problems with the meat may just be where you are at in the process. I don't know...I'm guessing. Call the doc to be safe. Good luck!

I hope you listen to your body and seriously consider calling your surgeon today or tomorrow. If it gets much worse (you said it is getting worse), go to the ER. It is better safe then sorry to get this checked out, especially at 3 months. At 3 months you should be able to eat 1-3 ounces of solid Proteins without growing up. Also make sure you are chewing enough and taking the time to eat. I still struggle with developing these habits and still get the stuck feeling. However, it is not as bad as when I got it between month 2 and 3.

I'm curious,, did you have the sleeve or bypass?

Sleeve. Didn't even consider bypass. Way to many potential future complications.

Just wondering. I hadn't really considered strictures to that big of a possibility with sleeves. Thought they were more for bypass. I'm hoping it's not that. Doesn't sound fun:-/

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
