So scared I don't think I can do it!

Recommended Posts

You definitely need to do your research. Everybody has their own limits as to how much risk they willing to take based on the expected reward. We all have our own stories and each of us had to decide when enough was enough.

For me, my quality of life was getting so low and I knew it would only be a matter of time before a weight related issue caused me some terrible harm. I have two small kids and I wanted to be there completely for them. I knew I had to make a permanent change.

Yes, there are complications. There are risks. There are risks driving down the road to work each day. You just have to talk to your Dr and assess how real the risks are for you and go from there. Nobody here should tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

Good luck and continue to research. I think you may find there are FAR more positive stories than bad ones.

Don't be afraid. If you stay compliant to the diets and follow the recommendations of the Dr. you will be just fine. I had my sleeve on August 28 and thrilled. I am down 70 pounds and 20 pounds away from my goal. I have no more pain in my knees and happier than I have been in years.

I am just like you. I already have a surgery date but I am wondering if I can go through with it. I am afraid of the complications, the discomfort of surgery and afraid that I won't lose much weight because I am in my 50's with a lower BMI. I don't want to go through all this for a small amount of weight loss. I am terrified. I can't do anymore research, I have researched til I can't anymore. I think I know TOO much. I was excited in the beginning until I started reading all these blogs about pain, discomfort, problems, etc. Now it's just making me think I should just go on a diet.

I was sleeved August 28th as well and am down 47 lbs. It has been a big change, but i don't regret it for one minute. I am 14 lbs from secondary goal... If you really want to change your life don't read horror stories. I guarantee there are more success stories than horror stories...

I am 63, my BMI was barely over 40 when I was sleeved in January. I've lost over 100 pounds from before I stared preparing for the journey, kicked diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, not to mention the other numerous agonies that accompanied obesity. My BMI is down to around 28.

I know that if I could have eaten what I have eaten and exercised over this period the same result would have happened without the operation. I am also certain that hunger would have made that as possible as being elected the king of Bulgaria.

I was sleeved 10/10, I'm down 87lbs and have zero regrets!! I wanted to be healthy for my kids! I feel if you research your surgeon, listen to your nutritionist and follow the rules you will be fine. For me, I felt that there were more risks staying fat than having the surgery!!

I am 3 months out and have NO regrets. This is the best thing I ever did. I went into this with a positive attitude. Followed all the directions from my NUT and Dr. The pain was less than a bad case of the flu for me! I only took pain meds for 1 week and it could have been less than that but I wanted to make sure I felt good :)

Stay positive. It makes a huge difference in healing. You will do great and feel so wonderful. This is the best! I love my sleeve. SO looking forward to the holidays and not overeating for the first time!!!!

5 months out. Down 56lbs from 36BMI to 27BMI. Size 18w to regular size 10. For me no regrets, no real pain after surgery only some discomfort. My back feels better, I'm exercising, my ability to make the right food and portion sizes is 100x better than it ever was and will be will be a tool I have for life. Know the risks, know the benefits, personally I think the scale is tipped way over to the side of benefits. Thats just my experience. Luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
