I'm not sure what you are questioning, but I'm wondering about the post-op diet your surgeon told you to follow? I spent two weeks on liquids, 2 more on mushie food before solids like roast beef. I was also told that until I got filled properly, yes I would be able to eat more and would get hungry quickly, much as I was before banding.

It's a long-term process, and doesn't really start until you are adjusted properly, as I understand it.

Does that address what you had in mind at all?

Why are you eating roast beef and toast? Going into your second week post-op you should still be on liquids, or soft food, at best.

Did your doctor not explain to you about adjustments? You will not feel restriction until you have had at least one fill, and probably more than one. Generally, those don't start until 4-6 weeks after surgery.

I think you and your surgeon need to have a heart-to-heart talk.

I agree, you should still be at the most on mushies. I would be afraid to be eating that. Plus, you shouldn't have any restriction other than the swelling because you have no fill. You won't get the full restriction feeling until good fill. Just be patient. It's too soon right now in my opinion.

No fill usually means no restriction. the band is designed to be filled to work at its best ability. What you are feeling is normal but I am more concerned with you eating RB two weeks post op. I was not allowed solids for 6 weeks. Who is your Dr? and what is his or her post op diet? Did your doctor tell you the risks of eating solids too soon? You risk your band slipping...is that RB worth it to risk your band slipping? Your band needs to set into place and you need to heal..be wise follow your doctors instructions.

I know im suppossed to be on liquid diet but i have been eating solid foods
This alarms me if you can not follow his instructions right after surgery I hope you have the discipline to walk this journey the band is not a magic wand you need to do alot of the work too. Good luck

It seems that you are eating too soon. I was on 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies, and then slowly introduced solids. I would recommend following the instructions of your doctor. The other thing I want to add is that if you are not getting enough Protein, you will feel hungry. 2 pieces of toast for dinner is not protein. It's a lot of carbs and carbs will not sustain you for very longer. I would encourage you to always eat your protein first...when you are supposed to eat that is. On liquids make sure you are adding protein (unflavored) to Soups, etc. or drink the Protein Shakes, on mushies, eat higher protein mushies or add the unflavored.

This is so true! Didn't your doctor give you any instructions for diet after the banding? You really need to follow his rules, and it he didn't give you anything or talk to you about it, then you need to call him immediately!

I was wondering if you went to Dr. Ortiz. I noticed in his book lap band for life he says you go from liquids to solids. I'm not sure how soon though. It said that there was no mushie food stage and that he didn't recommend it since the foods were usually high in carbs and stuff.

Dr. Ortiz doesn't have a "mushie" stage. I went straight from liquids to solids, but that was after 3 weeks.

You need to go back to your liquid diet. The liquid diet isn't there because you shouldn't be able to eat solid food it's there so that your stomach doesn't have to do much work while you are healing right after surgery.

16 oz of liquids in 30 minutes is no big deal. I can drink a 24oz bottle of Water in 5 minutes, if I'm thirsty, and I haven't eaten recently. Also, the meat out of a sandwich isn't probably as much food as you think it is. But, like I said, you should go back to the diet perscribed by your doctor, as it was perscribed for a reason. But without a fill, the band really isn't all that restrictive in most people.

1st of all I know you get hungry but I'd advise following the DOcs diet post op. The area is healing and needs to heal over so it doesnt move. As in slip any!

I ate too much too early and i suspect many people have. Not Arbys though in 2 weeks.

Soon you will be restricted and adjusted but the area needs to heal. I snuck some gravy and mashed potatoes and my wife told on me...They chewed me up one side the office to the other!!!

tattle tales!! I was starvin over here!!LOL

Hold it together a little longer.

__

In 2004 Ortiz had a mushy phase. I had surgery with him but since then he has changed nutritionists. He used to have 1 week Clear Liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 1 week mushy and at the 6 week mark I was allowed solids.

My clinic requires one week Clear Liquids, two weeks liquids, followed by two weeks of mushies. They are quite strict about this and I found that my stomach did shrink quite a bit during this period of time. Of course the light diet is so that your stomach can recover from the surgery. Anything else that happens during this period of time, such as weight loss, is a bonus. I used the time to practise eating differently. I lost 13 #. Some people lose more but I was pleased. You might want to try eating a very light diet, with very small portions but lots of Snacks.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
