Anyone have this? I have been trying to walk for exercise and its just getting worse. :( I've told my rheumatologist about the pain and they just ignore it and act as though its my weight. I've lost 53 lbs and my feet are getting worse not better. I can barely walk in the morning, I have to have my hubby help me to the bathroom. Should I be concerned or just keep trying to walk? What kind if Dr. do I see fir this? Podiatrist or Ortho? I really want to join the gym but I don't want this to discourage me from going.

Stretch...stretch...stretch, I had it. The only thing you to do is to stretch out those calve muscles. Stretch at least 5-6 times a day, when you use stairs, drop your heal down for around 15 seconds or so, google plantar stretches. For pain I rolled a tennis ball under my foot, or a can of Soup, also ice packs. Good luck! That is the worst pain. It will take a few days to start to feel better, it will though!

Ill try that! Thank you! I've had this pain for 2 yrs now its expected, but it doesn't help me if I can't walk. I googled it last night that's how I knew it was a "real" pain and not just be sues if my weight like my doc has lead me to believe.

i wore this brace at nights and it has eliminated the pain in the morning. cheap and effective. check it out . http://www.amazon.com/Medium-Cronin-PLANTAR-FASCITIS-SPLINT/dp/B001B5JVIA/ref=sr_1_fed0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354282179&sr=8-1&keywords=brace+for+plantar+fasciitis

i wore it every night for about 4 months and the pain has not come back since then. i dont have to wear the brace anymore.

many years ago i had the same problem. I tried all the stretches, etc. but kept getting worse. had cortizone (sp?) shots which helped for a short time. Then I had laser surgery. It took about 3 weeks before I realized i wasn't limping anymore.

The key for me was wearing good sneakers with the added arch support. Very weird feeling at first but once you get use to it all other shoes feel wrong. As soon as my feet started to bother me again i got a new pair of sneakers (you can reuse the supports). This helps dramatically.

however, as I continued to add weight i could feel it coming back (i wasn't exercising).

I had surgery 4 months ago, lost over 50 lbs and i can feel the difference.

I do not suggest pushing it. see a good podiatrist.

good luck.

I also wore a night brace, I totally forgot to put that in there, and a good arch support. I ordered one online called heel it...something like that, I tried a few different splints at night, you can buy them at Walmart or walgreens, CVs...I don't think there is anything worse than foot pain because it affects every part of your body! I'm 80 lbs down and my feet are feeling much better.

There is a boot that you can buy at a foot store or

online. You wear it at night and it helps soooo much! I too suffered from this and the boot worked

I had this and suffered for years. The podiatrist did different therapies to justify the surgery to insurance, but in the end, if the ligament is torn, the only thing to do is surgery. They basically cut the ligament at the tear, then make a bridge out of half-width pieces of it in order to lengthen it. When it heals, the scar tissue strengthens and thickens it, causing it to be as strong as before, only longer and less likely to tear again.

Do they do X-ray and/or MRI to diagnose it?

I had PF and did all of what pp talked about. Frustrated by months of working with MDs, I got acupuncture. Three treatments and it was gone. I had one relapse because I stopped stretching. I resumed stretching and had more acupuncture. I have been pain free for 11 months.

I was completely unwilling to get cortisone shot in my tendon. Too much risk of rupture.

Weigh is a big problem. Also, though, the pediatrist diagnosed a bunion at my great toe. I wear an insert that corrects that to prevent PF in that foot. I had PF in both.

I hope you find relief soon.

At the time I had the laser foot surgery I was uninsured so I didn't have to jump through all the hoops others do for surgery. The laser surgery was done in the office, didn't have to go under, etc.

Definately try everything docs says first. It was a last resort for me. I probably would have waited until I lost weight in conjunction with boots, stretching, etc. but not walking was a much higher priority for me than weight loss (didn't want to admit it then).

One thing the doc told me is to stop walking barefoot. Need that support. For the longest time my sneakers practically wen to bed with me. it helped.

Good luck on Monday.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
