It would do the same thing as pop and I was told no alcohol for 3 months.

Carbonation isn't a good idea so early on. And I doubt you could even stomach a glass or two. *maybe* a couple sips before you get sick.

No alcohol, no carbonation. I was told no booze for at least six months. I am looking forward to the six month mark, though. I've got a bottle of soju just waiting. Added bonus, surgeon said you become a super cheap date on drinks because one usually does it :D

The primary reason the Doc's tell you no alcohol for 6 months is because alcohol is empty calories (and lots of them !). It offers no nutritional value and can slow your progress significantly. That said, I tested the waters at 8 weeks (was very cautious). Over 3 days I had a couple glasses of wine, a couple of vodka/cranberries, a couple 7 and 7's, and a couple mimosa's (champagne and OJ). I experienced absolutely no problems nor did I become a one drink drunk as many have warned was possible. While my tolerance isn't what it used to be, it was only slightly less. That was my experience and yours may be different, but I can say out of everything I tried, the carbonated beverages were the most uncomfortable and took the longest to drink. Overall, having an alcoholic beverage was no big deal and I still lost a few pounds over those 3 days as well. :)

Dying to drink I too have a bottle of sojo and sake waiting to be drunk but...I say just say no for now. Not worth the risks there is always another day!

Goodluck!

As I understand it, carbonation will be your biggest issue. My neighbor, 3-years after sleeve, still cannot drink a beer without it foaming up on him, making him throw up. So he sips high-end tequila with whiskey stones.

I am a champagne lover! And wine, but champs is my drink of choice with the girls when we do lunch, get together, ummm well anytime. It's an acceptable Breakfast wine LOL

At two months out I started drinking wine again and do fine though my palate is still off. I don't get drunk off of a small amount, but I do drink slower than I used to. Instead of two or three glasses of wine with dinner I have one, sometimes one and a half.

I was told no carbonation until six months out in any significant amount. My doc is particularly cautious due to my complications. I have had a few sips of champs since the surgery, but find that the carbonation bothers me so I don't drink anymore than that. I do look forward to the day when champs will go down well and I'll likely have a glass or two a week as I used to, but early out, it's a) not good for your suture line to drink carbonated beverages, and B) just does not sit well.

I don't care about "empty" calories. I can keep below 600 with a glass of wine daily and still get in my Protein so it does not worry me. I'm still losing and doing fine.

Pretty much same experience for me, only I don't do any carbonation. I miss beer!

My new drink is diet blueberry juice (almost no carbs) and vodka.

Ssssh! Don't mention the B word! I'm mourning beer. Nothing said fun more than hanging out with my friends, playing Xbox after a jam session and drinking a Killian's with my buddies :( Or a log hike in the woods, then watching the game and sipping a cheap ole PBR!

Sad times for a beer lover. I may have to end up switching to a wine lover. Iggy, does Boone's Farm count? Lol ;)

LOL it counted when I was in high school....ummm added disclosure incase I run for president....drinking underage is dangerous and disgusting and ok well a bit fun :P But I don't advise it if I become president until I change us to the European rules and there is no drinking age! HA Oh I got a bit off topic there didn't I?

I think Boones farm would kill me if I remember the sugar content right heh heh But Riesling is going down just fine :P You just have to spend five more bucks!

wth is a log hike? Sounds like packing mules might be involved!

OP btw, cheap champs (which is technically not champs fyi) typically gets a shot of sugar put into it right at the bottling phase so it is not only higher in carbs, but has sugars that don't suit my tummy which you won't find in a mid priced or higher priced bottle...or real champagne. Given you can't drink much of it, be sure to get a better quality split bottle or something so that the sugar isn't bothering you when you give it a try later on.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
