Rain On My Parade ...

Recommended Posts

I am an open person, so ive been just up front to people about getting my surgery. Not one person responds with any type of postitive... All ive been getting is negitive feed back except from my partner and one friend. My family supports me, but I just wish more people were as excited as I am. Always get a lecture and an eye roll. Like they think I'm doing this all for cosmetic reasons or I'm just jumping into it. Well I hate to beak it to them- but there has been so much studying and testing. I'm ready!

So have any of you guys had this problem

Yea. It is a typical response. I think most people feel threatened. No matter what anyone elses opinion is, you are making the decision to take control of your life and your health.

This is the reason why I didn't tell anyone until the week before my surgery. Well, I did tell my best friend (who had the RnY about 2-1/2 years ago) and my parents (who weren't thrilled). I've since told anyone who's asked what I've been doing to lose weight - because it seems to be noticeable in the last few weeks. :)

I do understand WHY people view the surgery as extreme. I mean, it IS extreme. I don't think I'd have considered it if I had 50 pounds to lose.

Honestly, I hate to say it....most people are just ignorant and uneducated about bariatric surgery in general. And it is easier for them to eye roll and make judgments than it is for them to educate themselves.

I say good for you! I am glad you are taking this big step to regain your life. I did it 8 weeks ago and it is the BEST decision I have ever made for myself. I have lost 32 pounds in 8 weeks and feel AWESOME! No complications, no nauseau, very little discomfort pain when healing. I am really doing super and you will too!

If you and your partner have made the decision for you to do this for your life then who cares what everyone else thinks and I wouldn't bother telling people if they are going to be negative about it. I hate that it has been this way for you, but I assure you once the weight sheds off they will all be extremely curious to what your secret is! :)

Good Luck to you and keep your chin held high....I leave you with these two quotes from Dr. Seuss:

"You're on your own and you know what you know - you are the one who will decide where to go!"

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind!"

That Dr. Seuss knows what he's talking about it.... :)

I think a lot of it is ignorance. All people hear are the negatives of WLS and they're still stuck in the 80s mentality of WLS being a high risk operation.

What do they say now? I'm curious? I had the same problem and I just got my surgery Monday and I'm down to 276 from 287 (right before going in the OR) I feel great and I've seen you ok Instagram and you have truly inspired me to do this for myself and my fiancé who fully supported me. He is my BFF :)

Hey have you had any problems with your partner? Mine was the same way at times but fully supports me being healthy... But that was his only negative input. I'm 3 1/2 days post op and doing well so far... What's it like now if you don't mind me asking?

We are doing fine. I've lost 130 lbs and we're still happy in fact we got married on July 17th at the court house and are now planning our real wedding for oct 25 of next year.

I've told people I'm planning to get it done and so far everybody but one is happy for me. To those that will give me the eye roll, I'll tell them I did it the hard way first and did lose 120lbs, but I had to exercise 3hrs a day and starve myself almost. I developed my horrible habits when I was a kid and I can't break that habit without some physical intervention. (I've gained 100 of the 120 back, but there have been issues since in part to cause it). Most don't understand we don't want the habits we have; I am ready for the day I don't want to eat or don't have an appetite!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
